Convert Standard PC ACPI HAL to Uniprocessor or Multiprocessor???

I have one server that is currently Standard PC HAL, and wondering if it could be convert to uniprocessor or multiprocessor? I've tried so many tricks and tips online but no luck. I"m not sure if this is supported on Windows 2003 standard? I've use HAL update utility and didn't work, tried with Repair F5 windows installation option didn't work anyone has any clue that would be appreciated. Can we insert a line in VMX file by chance? Thanks in advance for any assistance. The machine was a P2V'ed server.

Either run SP2 / SP3 upgrade, if it's not already and use device manager to change the hal to correct one.

Failing that, you need to run repair, and treat it like a new install, and it will prompt for F6 to specifiy for additional drivers, you press F5 instead and once you get to the step to install Windows, it will prompt you for which HAL you want to use, but the repair takes the same time for a NEW install just be aware of that. You won't lose any settings as long as you let it detect the previous version and choose the correct repair option.

We've managed to get this working using devcon.exe utility pointing the correct ACPI version from hal.inf file. The server is still at SP1 level but works fine now. We've tried F5 Repaired before and it bluescreen so devcon.exe sounds like a validated solution we could use. Thanks again for input RParker.

Richard and I had this discussion yesterday and ,I after pointing out a repair of the OS would work, he immediately chimed in with a better response and that was to install SP2....

So, I still agree with him Smiley Happy
