Hello all. I am sorry if this has been covered already, I did a quick forum search and didn't find anything on the subject as of yet. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about when a HCL will be available for ESX/i 4. I am going to assume that if it is certified for 3.5 that it will at some point be certified for 4. Hopefully this issue will be sorted out by May 21st. Thanks for your assistance.

Cheers

Kevin

It'll probably be available when the products GA, but it closely follows the HCL for 3.5 and I'm sure additional hardware support will be included, only advice is to make sure you get something that is 64bit.

Are you looking at new servers or just checking on your existing hosts? I'd expect that you'll first only see newer servers on the list and that there will be servers on the 3.5 list that are a bit older that will work fine with 4.0 but may not get tested.

Contact the vendor, and ask them to start the certification proces as soon as possible.

during the vSphere beta the systems HCL PDF simply stated that all servers on the 3.5 HCL would be supported with vSphere with the exceptions that only 64-bit processors will work due to the 64-bit vSphere vmkernel.

as others have said "new" systems being released by vendors as we write obviously need to go through the ceritifcation process for the HCL as before so if you are contemplating a server purchase check with your vendor on their status or intention to submit that system for testing.

That's all good and positive and all...

However, past experience is that initial release HCLs are far behind in certifications when you consider storage systems and IO devices as part of the equation. I for one am skeptical of broad support out of the gate.
