As ever I've been doing somethings I shouldn't do to see what happens 
1. It doesn't work. You cannot add an ESX4 "Classic" host into the VC4LIN. It kicks back with the message that
"The host type is not supported, or was added to a cluster but does not support clustering features".
2. the vSphere4 client does not work with the vCenter on Linux. Download the VIC and use that instead.
I reckon there's some versioning check going on.
I was hoping to add VC4LIN in my book on vSphere - but evaluation ends here really because Vi3.5 is history me...
In principle I LOVE THE IDEA THAT vCENTER IS LINUX VP. I look forward to the day that to teach the vCenter part of the training course involved download and click next
