Team...

new to both the forum and to my new HW (macbook, v 10.5.6) running VM Fusion 2.0 (116369) out of the box. Loaded Vista Ultimate (Sp1) etc.

I have downloaded from a corporate hosting arrangement Outlook 2007 to setup Exchange connection which all works with a big tick. Obviously I would prefer to have attachments launch the corresponding " mac-side" app (aka word, excel, pdf viewer, etc....).

From what I can see any attachment will attempt to be loaded from "Cache". Is it possible to set the "Cache" to be a shared directory that I can then associate a Default Host Application to?

Appreciate any assistance to us folks downunder.

Cheers

Yes it is actually very easy although it does involve editing the Windows Registry and you may not be comfortable doing that but if you're careful it shouldn't be a big deal.

Outlook 2007 reads the following Registry Key for where to temporarily store file it's going to open and by changing the Key's value to that of a VMware Shared Folder that is set to Read & Write you will be able to have it open with the Host's Default Application for the File Type providing you have the relevant other settings and from the sound of it you know what those are.

The target Key is: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Security\OutlookSecureTempFolder

An example value for the Key is: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\THU44QLV

An example of what you'd change that Key to is: \\.host\Shared Folders\Temp

I created a folder in my Home folder named Temp because I didn't what full Read & Write access to the entire Home folder. I just clean it out once in a while however Outlook 2007 opens attachments with the Host's Default Applications with ease.
