Problem with VIMA and APCUPSD

I have 2 ESXi 3.5 hosts and APC SmartUPS RT 6000 and i was following the steps in Joseph Holland guide to make VIMA shut down my VM's i case of power failure. So the problem is that when i came to start the apcupsd daemon, VIMA couldn't connect with the UPS. The apcupsd.conf file is same as the guide, then i set up apcupsd on a windows machine and it worked without any issue. So my guess is the problem is somewhere inside the VIMA. i'm not very experienced with VIMA, so if any of could gave me i tip how to work this out i'll be very thankful.

My apcups.conf file is attached.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Unfortunately the installation of APCUPSD is not officially supported by VMware on VIMA, you might want to try to message Joseph Holland and see if he can give you any pointers as he was the original author of the document.

I was able to get VIMA installed and apcupsd installed. I config'd my apcupsd.conf file just like it showed in the document,

When I run the apcaccess it say that communication has been lost. Has anybody else seen this.. I have very little experiance with linux..does anybody have a virtual appliance that is working that could download and make my change to? I am just really confused and any help would be great.

My config is

1 esxi server

4 VM's on this box

1 APC with the Smart card in it APC has a static IP and MY VIMA VM has a static IP.

Did you stop VIMA's firewall? Maybe this is causing you the problem.

Read the updated version of Joe's document!
