Is there any way to customize the web interface of LabManager 3.1 ?
I want to change the Lab Manager Support link in the main side menu to point to a selfmade support webpage containing our documentation aroun our Labmanager processes !
I Also want to add own created links in the menu that pints to scripts or Web pages containing API functions!
Best Regards
MatsRob
You cannot customize LabManager with your own created links.
I have the EXACT same question for the EXACT same reason!! I can find the .ASPX pages on the LM server, but I can't find the associated .CS files that go with the web pages. .CS files are the associated C# code which is what we need to tweak. I've scoured our LM box to no avail and have gone so far as to contact some LM exepers on the VMWare side, but they state it can't be done. I'm sure it can though...maybe Steve Kishi can help us out with an answer?
Sorry, a lot of these things are in compiled code, as you've discovered. We can add a certain amount of configurability in future versions of the product. If interested, please respond to this thread with the specific UI elements you want to configure. Thanks!
Hey Steve; as usual you are an avid reader of the forums and all of your responses are much appreciated!
YES if we can tweak at least the Main.aspx web page so that we can post our in-house help documentation it would be of great benefit to our customers. Personally I'd like the ability to see even more of the C# code that you guys are using for soap calls and other LM->VC communication, but not a requirement right now!
Thanks!
I'm building a Lab Manager environment right now. Here is the list I'd like to see.
Ability to modify logo's throughout Lab Manager (Internal branding purposes)
logo on logon screen
logo on main Lab Manager website
Modifty the help sections (Videos/Documentation/Support) to remove and add links
specifically I'd like to build my own videos and documents that show my customized environment with the roles and rights that I have granted
I also want to add a FAQ and policies document
I'd like to be able to redirect the Lab Manager Support link to an internal site as well as rename it with my internal branding
I'd like to change the email address for the Feature Request link to the mailbox I setup for the Lab Manager environment so that I can see the requests since I'm assuming that a portion of the requests are going to be things like "I want <blank> OS as a template/library entry" or "I need to be able to deploy more than xx VM's"
If you are taking requests I'd really like to be able to specify a maximum cap for the amount of CPU/RAM that someone can assign to a virtual machine. I really want to give my users the ability to change the RAM in the VM's between 1GB/2GB/4GB but I really don't want them to type in 64GB.... I could see this being implented a couple of different ways...either just let me populate entries on a dropdown and allow different entries like we allow access to resources groups and media shares today or give me a couple more policies settings where the user can still enter any number they want but I can set a max RAM and max CPU's quota for the user.
Jbrown probobly capture 90% of the top 10 ui modifications!
Start with the simple ones like logo branding l/ inks to own web pages etc. (Strange that it´s now already in there in a 3.x version
)
When this is in plase we need more of the features that allows the users to modify the mashines "Like jbrown suggests" like memory cpu etc..

bump - Steve is there an ETA when some minimal customization might be available for the main page? Thanks...
Sorry, I can't give an ETA at this time. One of the enduring challenges of Product Management is trying to find space in the over-crowded release train. The features have been filed, but haven't been assigned a release yet.
I am requesting the same changes here to our TAM's and our Global Account team. We are a fortune 50 company and are marketing to deploy lab manager and stage manager across the entire company.
But before we will be able to do this, we will need some level of customization even if it is as simple as how SharePoint allows you to make changes without needing to know OOP.
I'm compiling a list of enhancement requests that I'd like to see as we finish up our implementation and I'll share it with our TAM as well. I also shared several with our consultant during our jumpstart and he's going to take them to the product manager for Lab Manager next month at VMware's partner exchange. If enough of us request from enough angles we'll get them in there...
I've been digging trying to find ways to mitigate some of these limitations...It's not perfect but if you haven't already I'd encourage you to look at the Roles and Rights, I've hidden the entire Support section from our users since I can't modify it. I haven't figured out a way to hide/modify the support and documentation section on the overview page though and I want our users to see their quota and usage otherwise I'd just hide the whole page. I'd also dig around under the WebSrvr/Resources folder on the Lab Manager server...there are some gif's you might find interesting.
Ability to add a splash screen or logon banner at logon with our own custom message to the Lab Manager environment users to say something like "Reminder: This is a lab/development environment and not a high performance environment with business critical SLAs".
