Then????

Disaster Recovery - Replication based (vReplicator, DoubleTake, etc.) - for May, unless I hear otherwise

  • Virtual Infrastructure 4
  • Capacity Planning
  • Backups - VCB Proxy, Host Based (Avamar, PureDisk), etc.
  • Cloud Computing - BlueLock, vCloud
  • Application Virtualization - Thin App
  • VMWare workstation and Fusion
  • Storage - SAN vs. iSCSI vs. NFS
  • vLANs and NIC teaming
  • Hardware selection
  • vCenter Patch Management
  • vCenter Consolidator - P2V migrations
  • vCenter installation and setup
  • VMWare View (VDI)
  • Lab Manager
  • LifeCycle Manager
  • VMWare ACE
  • High Availablity / DRS
  • Return on Investment (ROI)
  • ???????

I'd use the polls but they only allow you to vote for one item. This is your group so let me know what topics you'd like covered. Some smaller ones, I might try to do before the main speaker with demonstration.

Based on the open discussion at the end of the last meeting I think a lot of people would like to hear about ESX deployment, things like

  • How to configure your SAN, size of UNs, how many disks per LUN, how many virtual machines per LUN, LUN configuration for different applications (SQL, Web, etc.)
  • How to identify bottlenecks on your ESX servers
  • Sizing of virtual machines (CPU count, memory size) to avoid overcommitment or negative overcommitment.
  • How to setup network cards in ESX servers for best performance and redundancy
  • etc.

I think some best practice meetings would be beneficial to all to get a solid ESX understanding across our user group and then start getting into the more advanced things like DRS, DPM, HA, SRM, etc.
