Have you checked the HCL yourself? It's available in the documentation section of the VMware Support site (http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs) under the VI documentation, then ESXi. It's called the System Compatibility Guide.

It's unlikely to be supported, but ESXi may run fine on it. What sort of storage controller and NIC does it have? Are you able to get the specific PCI ids for those 2 devices?

ESX 3.5 Does run on it but it did not work on the local SATA controller, I had to put an adaptec card in it.

klxout,

I'm running ESXi on an IBM x220 Smiley Happy which is much older than your X226. Runs perfect! Only thing is that it can't monitor voltage, fans, etc etc.

My X220 has three SCSI disks that are not on RAID.

You can take a look at this page to see if ESXi with recognize the serveraid 7t - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/Hardware_support.php.

First of all, thanks for your answer.

I have checkes and serveraid 7t (it is an adaptec 2410 SA) and in this page appears. But I have installed esxi in this server and after first reboot all seems to work correctly, but after secodn reboot I have obtained a kernel panic, and I can't boot the system

What can I do?

Thanks

Klxout,

Do you have any more info on the Kernel Panic? Any additional error messages?

hello.

i've the same question.

i try to install esx 3.5i u3 on an ibm 226. it has an adaptec host raid with scsi disk in Raid 1.

at the install, esx load the aic79xx module successfully, but it shows the two disks instead of the array.

does anybody have the same problem ? is there a solution ?

thanks a lot

Welcome to the VMware Community forums. The drivers that come with ESX(i) don't support HostRAID so you'll only be able to use individual drives.

Hi,

I have been using for some time (months at least) ESXi 3.5 on a xSeries 226 server:

9GB RAM

2 XEON 3.2 CPUS

IBM ServeRaid with 6 SCSI 145GB disks

with no mayor issues. Only thing is there is little monitoring of hw details (fans, power supplys, etc). But the system has been rock solid.

I was only wondering if the new version (I think ESX 4) works, but still do not know if there are enough nice new things to justify changing. Only thing I would really like is console for Linux and ... Mac OS X Smiley Happy
