I am trying to dig out DRS events from one of my Virtual Centers. I know of 2 locations: 1 is the DRS action history, which is apparently cleared frequently, the other is c:\docs and settings\all users\app data\ vmware\vmware virtualcenter\logs\drmdump\clusterxxxx, but this contains a lot of xxxxxxxx-proposeactions.dump file that do not contain records of actual migrations. Any idea, where should I look? And how do I get events in DRS Action History to "stick" ??
I increased the DRS log size through the advanced settings for DRS, by entering DumpSpace and the new size in MB. I hope that works out.
Hello,
Another location is /var/log/vmware/hostd.log.* on the actual ESX host.

Thanks, though I would love to have a centralized view of DRS events. Strangely, the logs on the VC server don't really tell you what VMs were affected by DRS events.
BTW, I love your book, good stuff.
Hello,
Thank you.
I think everyone would like a centralized view of DRS events. I would open a Feature Request with your VMware Support Representative. Alternative, I would use a syslog server and a parser to find all the events within the logfiles.
