HP Proliant ML 350 G3

Can ESXi be implemented on an HP Proliant ML350 G3? The compatibility guide includes the G5 model, that is different.

Have anybody implemented ESXi on an ML 350 G3?

Regards

Marius

See this thread - http://communities.vmware.com/message/832678#832678.   If you have a storage controller and NIC that is supported then you should be fine to install ESXi to a HD.

Yes it can.

I have one running at home for dev testing purposes.

Thanks

I think it will work, but since ILO2 is not there in this server, the health status tab in VI client will not have much information available. You cannot install HP Agents also in ESXi.

Re: HP Proliant ML 350 G3

I'm trying to find a low-cost dev environment that isn't rack mounted and came across a ML 350 G3 and was looking at putting esxi on it.  Is there any up-to-date information on the compatability ?

Thanks,

Re: HP Proliant ML 350 G3

Thanks Daniel ,

I just bought one with the 641 array controller.  I'm fairly conviced

it'll be OK because the controoller itself is listed as supported. I'll

post when I get it up and running..

Re: HP Proliant ML 350 G3

Good news, I've put ESX 3i 3.5.0 on it.Works fine.

Not too noisy either.

Re: HP Proliant ML 350 G3

This thread was very helpful, thanks!  I still wasn't sure what I'd have to go through to install it though, so here's an update (I don't know if this will bump this thread, so if does, I apologize.)

3.5.0 build-207095 Installed straight from CD, no drama at all on ProLiant ML350 G3 with SA 532 in raid 5, dual xeon.

Not using ILO, so can't comment on that.

I have installed ESXi 3.5 on my test HP ML350 G3 and it works fine. Though has anyone got the HP Insight Manager working or any way of seeing the boxes temps?

Re: HP Proliant ML 350 G3

I don't know whether the G3 has an embedded ILO card and whether ILO is necessary for temp but it may be required. I assume that the VI client does not show anything under hardware health on the configuration tab?
