Solaris 10 panic after install or convert posted: Aug 28, 2008 8:39 AM

Hello everybody,

After a sucessfull installation or conversion, I get the following error on Solaris:

paniccpu0/thread =fec1ec20: cannot mount root path

I found this related thread on the opensolaris forums: http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=67752 but I cann't follow it because I can find my HD.

Any ideas?

Seems more like a Solaris issue, so you may have better luck posting to the Solaris forum.

My only suggestion would be to try switching the SCSI controller of your VM to whichever type you're currently not using. So, if you're using an LSILogic, switch it to BusLogic, or if you're using BusLogic, switch it to LSILogic.

Seems to be an issue with Solaris not loading the right storage drivers.

Thanks, Converter use BusLogic, which doesn't works quite well with Solaris. I'm still figuring out how to recover my boot configuration.

VMware tries to make a guess at which controller to use based on what you tell it the guest O/S will be, but that doesn't always pan out. I still have trouble with Windows XP machines and getting the correct storage drivers installed into my XP install disc. Sounds like maybe there are some disconnects on the Solaris guests, too.

This also happends when you select typical vm creation and select Solaris 10, It use BusLogic for SCSI adapter, but when you do a custum install it recommends LSI Logic.

I found this thread http://communities.vmware.com/thread/99064 I going to try this way. For the converter VM. But I still figuring out what's wrong with a brand new install on esxi.

The problem with the clean install was that it automatically detects 64bits hardware. Changing the VM type after install does the trick.
