Hi!
I want to setup test Vmware ESX 3.5 U2 or ESX 3i U2 box... Well now I get all supported NIC`s ICH9 Mainboard...
I saw that someone tried and succedded installijg ESX 3.5 on ASUS P5K ICH9 mainboard. I am not able to install on it, because
ESX does NOT recognize Jmicron controller on which IDE DVD/CD rom is located...
How to install then?
Can I install ESX 3.5 U2 from USB key? Not ON USB like ESX 3i but FROM USB to HDD...
SATA HDDs are recognized by ESX 3i while booting it from USB key so I just need installation source other than CD/DVD...
Thanks!
Huh I don`t know what happened, but I successfuly installed ESX 3i U2 on this motherboard on SATA drive...
ESX 3i simply recognized my DVD drive and installed ESX 3i on HDD...
ASUS P5K IS fully supported chipset with exception of Jmicron controller... With other words, everything works fine
but you cannot use CD/DVD device for virtual machines if you have it plugged on Jmicron controller... Just use ISO
images, upload them to ESX host and thats it!

Performance of disks is great, I like this free version of 3i
I hope I helped someone here around
Also the network card is not working. other then that it works perfect.
I have also loaded ESXi on of a P5K and the NIC also did not work. I quess the only way around this is an 3rd party NIC card. But what is compatable?
