Link to download is dead

Nov 14, 2008 11:01 AM vmweathers  VMware  says: in response to: continuum

can you give more details on "dead"? I can access both of the links just fine from outside of the corporate network, with my own account and with a new one I created. Maybe it's a permissions issue with some existing users. I'll contact IT.

Nov 14, 2008 11:12 AM vmweathers  VMware  says: in response to: continuum

I believe it's fixed now. dconvery on the forums pointed out that on windows the URL is case-insensitive, but on linux it needs to have a lower-case "conv4-beta" suffix.

So am I. Received it at 9:30am CST 11/19/08

Nov 19, 2008 8:55 AM Group Roctest  says:

same for me! When i clic on the link in the e-mail, i receive error 404

Nov 19, 2008 9:38 AM benad  says:

same 404 here. tried uppercase and lowercase. where is the page with the download link?

Nov 19, 2008 11:01 AM benders  says:

More of the same here.

Nov 19, 2008 11:54 AM Badsah  VMware Moderator  says: in response to: benders

Hi, the link works for me at this moment. I can reach the EULA page, agree to the terms, and download the executable. Can everyone try again and tell me if it's working for you?

Just tried, and it's still not working. I get the login page, then a 404.

Nov 19, 2008 12:16 PM husker411  says: in response to: benad

Hey, I just tried it again and got through this time. The page that the link above directs you to is here:

***Note*** I had posted a link here but have now removed it due to the procedural request of the Web Community Team. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

So give it a try. I don't know if it will work for everyone since I just had a friend try it and he was unsuccessful because he's not signed up for the Converter community.

Nov 19, 2008 12:19 PM benad  says: in response to: husker411

The link to communities.vmware.com doesn't work either. It displays a page with "Unauthorized. You do not have the permissions to perform this action or access this page. For further assistance, please contact a VMware Communities moderator."

Nov 19, 2008 12:24 PM husker411  says: in response to: benad

The culprit may be in VMware's permissions. About 10 minutes ago I got an email saying "Welcome to the VMware Converter 4 Beta Program" from converter4_beta@vmware.com. It's possible that we all were getting the "Unauthorized" errors because we weren't allowed into that portion of VMware's site because VMware might not have processed our registrations requests yet.

Just throwing out possibilities here...

Nov 19, 2008 2:41 PM Badsah  VMware Moderator  says: in response to: husker411

I believe this is definitely related to registration and permissions. IT is investigating the root cause, so please hold off until we tell you to try again. We are using the accounts of those of you commenting here as test-crash dummies, to identify a pattern. Thanks for your patience, Badsah

P.S. - Don't try to access the community link http://communities.vmware.com/community/beta/converter directly without going through one of the two links embedded in the email invitation. There is a mechanism by which we associate your account with the private community automatically, and circumventing that will result in the "Unauthorized" message no matter what you do.

Badsah,

I went ahead and removed the link in my post above. Again, sorry for the confusion, just trying to help.

For those of you who encountered the "404 error - Page not found"
problem last week, I have good news. IT was able to identify the root
cause and fix the issue over the weekend. Please retry the entire flow
beginning with clicking the appropriate link in your public beta
announcement/invitation email. If you have any questions or issues,
please contact converter4_beta_setup@vmware.com .

Thank you.
