Guest Provisioning System (cloning from templates)

VERSION 3 Published

Created on: Aug 30, 2008 5:30 PM by LucD - Last Modified:  May 22, 2009 11:50 AM by LucD

Define and create VI guests based on templates. The application allows an authorized user to define and create one or more guests in a VI environment. By default the application presents the user a Windows Forms based dialog. To allow for scheduling the creation of the guests the application can be run in CMD-mode. In other words no Windows Forms are used. For further info see the Word doc in the ZIP file.

Please note that this is an early beta of v2 of this application.
Use it only in your test environments for now!

Comments, bug reports, suggestions are more than welcome.

Very nice! Comments:

  • datastore field should check for valid values by vmhost
  • the disk size dialog will accept a null size
  • the network dialog only sees one of my networks

Yes, my mistake, sorry about that. Nice script by the way. I was wondering when to expect one of your great contributions.

1) I our setup we map all VMFS datastores to all VMHosts.
But it is a valid remark.
I will add that functionality.

2) I will add a validation function to fix the zero disk size shortly.

3) The list of available Virtual Machine Port Groups is based on a script that I entered in the VI Toolkit community.
See http://communities.vmware.com/message/1029208#1029208.
Does that return all the VM Port Groups correctly ?
