What is the CSHWSW?

Who, What, Why: The Community-Supported Hardware / Software listing (CSHWSW) is the list of configurations that the community (you) have reported to work with VMware Infrastructure. This community-contributed list complements VMware's Hardware Compatibility List (HCL), which is VMware's official listing of supported configurations. Because VMware is not able to test and certify every combination of hardware and software, this listing exists so that community members (including users of hardware / software configurations as well as vendors of the hardware and software) can report configurations they have found to work. VMware makes no claims about the accuracy of the CSHWSW, and no support commitment is implied.

Current Contents: This community is the interim CSHWSW listing while VMware writes a new CSHWSW application. This interim CSHWSW contains:
  1. the Initial CSHWSW Entries, which is all of the listings submitted to date,
  2. the Other Community-Reported Compatibility Resources, which points to other off-site configuration resources, and
  3. the rest of the discussion threads, which you and other community members can report additional configurations.
Planned Improvements: The new application, planned for 2009, will capture similar information as Initial CSHWSW Entries, with the following improvements:
  1. submitters will be identified by their VMware Communities usernames,
  2. comments will be stored and displayed directly with the entry, not in a separate discussion thread,
  3. a search function will be added,
  4. better back-end administration.
When the new CSHWSW application is launched in 2009, community members will be asked to re-enter the configurations they reported into the new application. Once this is done, we will shut down this interim CSHWSW.
