Product Overview

VMware vSphere is the industry's most complete and robust virtualization platform, offering the highest levels of availability and responsiveness.  The VMware vSphere Client for iPad is a companion interface to the traditional vSphere client, optimized for viewing and managing your vSphere environment on the go.  With this client you can monitor the performance of vSphere hosts and virtual machines.  Virtual machines can be started, stopped and suspended.  vSphere hosts can be rebooted or put into maintenance mode.

Requirements:

  • vCenter Mobile Access (vCMA) virtual appliance available from the VMware Labs: http://labs.vmware.com/flings/vcma
  • Network connection to the vCMA virtual appliance; can use built-in VPN client
  • VMware vSphere and VMware vCenter Server

Getting Started

Setting up the vSphere Client for iPad is quick, easy, and consists of two major steps:

  1. Setup the free vCenter Mobile Access (vCMA) virtual appliance
  2. Download and configure the vSphere Client for iPad application from iTunes.

Installation and Configuration:

  1. Download, power-on, and configure the vCenter Mobile Access (vCMA) virtual appliance 
    • Find the download and configuration instructions for the vCMA here: vCMA User Guide
  2. Download vSphere Client for iPad from the Apple iTunes Store
  3. On the home screen of the iPad go to "Settings", scroll down and tap on "vSphere Client". Now enter the IP Address of the vCMA virtual appliance.
  4. Ensure your iPad has connectivity to the vCMA virtual appliance.  This may entail configuring the iPad's built-in VPN client.  Consult Apple's documentation on configuring the built-in VPN client.
  5. Launch the vSphere Client for iPad application and enter the host, username and password for the vCenter Server or vSphere Host you wish to connect to.
