Why does MOB does not return the MOR sometimes?

Hi,

I am connecting to a VSphere Vcenter4.0. Using this Session I am trying to get the Managed Object Reference of a particular managed entity programatically. Sometimes we have the MOR returned null, both programatically and thru MOB as well.

If any one of you had a similar issue please provide the details. Why does this happen when we have a valid connection and valid managed entity working properly on the Vcenter.

Following the example included with the SDK, I wrote an app to try and connect to VMWare, but I'm getting an error message telling me that I have an Incompatible Class Change Error:

And it's the line Connection con = new Connection(config) which causes the problem. Debugging, I found that everything else works fine and I get legit login information (server, protocol, etc.) Once it gets to that line, it causes the error.

Anyone have a clue why I'm getting the error and/or what "com.vmware.ws.service.BaseServiceStub._service" is?

1.What is the difference between Event properties key and chainid?

Almost all of the events i received have the same key and chain id.What is the use of ChainId property.

2.The property key is of data type Integer.Is it capable of
holding large values.(<code>(java)-2147483648 to
</code><code>2147483647</code>).

The Event's key property is increasing for every session
login,logout.If this continues it will soon reach 2147483647.Then what
will be the Key value for the next event?

How to use authentication and certificate to connect ESX/VC using java?

I obtained the certificate file using java keystore tool and then i added the following lines in my code for logging into the web service

and then i printed out the API version details.Then i call the method for getting VM details(name,runtime.powerState).But the objectContent[] returned is null.But i am able to get the VM details if i execute this method(method for getting VM details) alone in a seperate program(as given in sample programs).Any idea?

How to use the obtained session for further communication?

no capacity information in com.vmware.vi.host.ScsiDisk.Partition

VmfsVolume.getExtent() returns an array of ScsiDisk.Partition. All these partitions are coming from SCSI disk devices.

Theoritically you can have multiple partitions in a disk. And these partitions can be added to a data store (VmfsVolume). so, obviously each partition will have it's own capacity or size and if you add the capacity of all partitions in a scsi disk, you'll get the total capacity of the disk. so, shouldn't capacity be there for each partition. i don't see any getters to get that from ScsiDisk.Partition. is it provided anywhere else?

Finding a ScsiLun.Lun using key

hi,

i'm getting a ScsiLun key as below.

MultipathInfo mpinfo = HostSystem.getConfig().getStorageDevice().getMultipathInfo();

LogicalUnit[] luns =mpinfo.getLun();

now for each LogicalUnit

i'm getting LogicalUnit.getLun(). it gives the ScsiLun key like "key-vim.host.ScsiDisk-vmhba2:0:9".

if i need to get ScsiLun attributes like the logical unit number of the lun, i need to get the ScsiTopology.Lun.

how do i get there with the key i got earlier. i can't do findEntities as ScsiTopology.Lun is not a ManagedEntity.

should i cache all the Luns from ScsiTopology first and then do a lookup when i get a ScsiLun key?

the basic question is if i have a key for non ManagedEntity, how do i get the object with a lookup or it's not possible?

datacenter not found

First picture I try to run VMpowerOps.java but It displays datacenter not found.

Second one I try to find datacenter in my vmware infrastucture client but I can find it.

Please help me ?
