LifeCycle Manager some Questions
Hi there

We are currently evaluating and testing VMware LifeCycle Manager 1.02. There are still some question open, and I hope I can get them answered in this Thread:

1. Is the WebGui available in another Languag as English? As far as I have seen it is only in english?

2. Is it possible to customize the ''Requester-Site''? Meaning that the requester could also choose more than 1 Harddisk, define Disk-Size or additional questions etc.?

3. Can I block the options such as CPU or RAM for the Technical Requester? example: Thechnical Requester can only manipulate CPU and RAM, no Disks or Datastore!

Kind regards

User in multiple groups / LCM roles - approvals tab doesn't appear

Hi all,

I'm trying to place LCM users in multiple roles - specifically, IT Staff and Approver. The reason for this is that we want IT staff to choose the machine name and it seems this is set when the request is approved.

When I add user x to the "IT Staff" and "Approvers" AD groups used by LCM, and then log in as x, I can see items awaiting approval and approve them, but only when x first logs in as the approvals tab isn't there, which means x cannot, say, go to the catalog then back to approvals (have to log out then log back in again to access approvals). I've tried with firefox and IE, same result. It's bit difficult to explain in writing - the attached screenshot should make it clearer...

Anyone know of a solution to this?

Reports Download
Whenever I try to download a report in LCM the xml file opens in a browser instead of saving to disk. I am pretty sure this was working at one point. I have tried it from multiple machines and different browsers and still no file download possible.

Has anyone seen this or know how to resolve this?

Problem during archiving
Dear community,

I have a problem during the archiving of a decomissioned machine. The error code of the LCM is:

"TypeError: Cannot read property "config" from null (Dynamic Script Module name : getVMTotalSize#2)"

Can someone give me a hint what the problem might be? The volume has enough space to carry the VM.

Thanks in advance and regards
LifeCycle Manager LDAP config to Active Directory / default user
Is it possible change the user for manage lcm appliance 1.0.1

Example:

lcmadmin --> useradmin a user of Active Directory member of lcmadmins group

lcmuser --> user another user of Active Directory in this case member of"Domain users" group

I
have setting LDAP to Active Directory (green ball and test login work
correctly) but the user for enter in http://LCM_Appliance:8080/vmo
don't work with user create in Active Diretory but only with default
user LCM Appliance.

The only credential that work is default Lifecycle Manager : lcmadmin / admin , lcmuser /user , ecc...

Can you help me, please?
VM with two disks - deployment problem
Hi,

I need to create VM with two vmdks located on two different datastores. One vmdk hosts OS files and is located on Datastore1 while second hosts page file and tmp files and is located on Datastore2. I created appropriate criteria and infrastructure mappings. After the approval VM is not created automatically, because there is datastore conflict, ie LCM cannot decide where to place the vmdks (it can see both datastores). During manual placement I cannot decide where to place particular vmdk files, too, so all VM files are landing on one datastore in same VM folder. I experimented a little. I created two templates, one where all template files are located on one datastore and second where vmdks are located on separate datastores. It didn't help.

Did anyone encounter similar problem?

Regards,

Hello,

When specifying a Template Profile in Infrastructure, on the second page (OS Parameters) I am unable to select a Time Zone. When I click into the field it displays "undefined". If I click the down-arrow then an empty list is shown with the text "No item to display". This prohibits me from finishing the Template Profile since the Time Zone field is required. Can anybody help? Thank you.
URL to request email notifications

Email notifications are HTML encoded - so adding links is possible. There is already a #webviewUrl replacement text, which allows a URL to the LCM to be inserted into the email. And I've seen how you can added a little extra, like "/placements" or "/approvals" to get a link that will get a bit closer to what the email is about. But is there a way to include a URL that will take the person directly to the request? For example, when a requester gets an email announcing that a VM is available, it can include a link that will take them straight to their request, rather than to the catalog or requests page and make them hunt throuhg all the requests for their particular one.

<type>string</type>

<type>string</type>

</attributes>
</getAllWorkflowsReturn>

For executing this workflow I need to pass values of different items of type as defined above. I am not sure of the different application defined item types, for example

lcm:ProvisioningToken

Properties

VMware3:VirtualMachine

lcm:TokenDataKeys

lcm:JoinDomainInfo

Like wise there are many application defined item types that are used in other workflows.

Can anybody tell me how to retrieve appropriate values for application defined item type?

Is there any workflow that can be used to get these values?

Thanks,

Service Provider model
Does any use LCM in a Service Provider model, where there are lots and lots of organisations, with sub-orgs and/or projects for each ?

Iam thinking about how to represent them in the Criteria mapping.

Each Org/suborg or Org/project would have different ResourcePools and folders, and possibly networks. But share templates/domains (within Org)
Webviews

Hello,
I have two questions about webviews:
1° How can we convert 3.0 webviews to 3.2 compatible webviews (as the importation of 3.0 webviews on VMO 3.2 is possible but the webview remains disable in the webviews list page) ?
2° Is the webview "weboperator" usable by non VSO admin users ?

Thank you for your help.
VMO Tasks
I have set up a task (created in July) to run a workflow every weekday at 9am with these parameters:

Execution date and time: in 5mins from task creation

Recurrence: Every weeks (time: 09:00:00, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri)

Recurrence end date: Not set

However, looking at the execution log of the task, it is following a strange pattern showing the following execution dates:

Thu 24/07/08

Fri 25/0708

Thu 31/07/08

Fri 01/08/08

and the next execution date is the Thu 07/08/08.

Have I been creating the task incorrectly (to run every weekday)?

LCM Plugins Installation
Hi all,

I am experiencing problems installing/activiating the default pluging on VMO ie database pluging which comes with the standard installation file (ver 1.0.0/360).

In the vmware orchestgrator configuration portal all the vertial tabs appear green and ready to go. I have installed the VMO server and started the service, like the manual says.

My problem is that i have noticed the plugins do not install even if i restart the configurator server/services/reboot the machine.

In the plugin tab the user is part of the LCM administrator group.

I have attached the log file for the service to help.

Also the plugin tab shown below

Common enumerated types 2.1.0 - No installation required

Net 1.4.0 - No installation required

Database 1.0.4 - Will perform installation at next server startup.

VMO Library 0.0.2 - Will perform installation at next server startup.

VMware Lifecycle Manager 1.0.0 - Will perform installation at next server startup

Mail 1.1.0 - No installation required

Networking 1.0.0 - Will perform installation at next server startup.

SNMP 2.0.0 - No installation required

VMware Virtual Infrastructure 3 1.3.0 - Will perform installation at next server startup.

VMO WebOperator 2.0.0 - Will perform installation at next server startup.

XML 1.0.2 - Will perform installation at next server startup.

Microsoft 1.2.3 - Will perform installation at next server startup.

Any help is welcomed!

Unable to place VM
Hello -

I tried to place a VM and it failed. The following error was in the server log:

WARN WorkflowItemTaskRunner Script execution error on workflow : Placement V2 (Try Automapping) / 'Get Timezone in Number'(item11). : TypeError: Cannot read property "id" from null

I ended up reinitializing the plug-ins to get them to work. Anyone know why this would happen?
specific VM requests
Hey all,

I've gotten everything up and running, fully functional, but I have one problem and one question. My problem is that in the web interface, if I make a request, I am confined to the options presented in terms of what the VM will be used for (the 5 fields-location, organization, etc.). But if I fill these out, it appears to limit my server options to nothing (but I know I haven't configured any of my hosts for these 5 fields)... why can't I just select a given host? So that's my problem, it won't let me stick the VM anywhere to create it.

My question is this. If I've got several clone templates set up, is there a way to import those into LCM so that I can make my users select just from those clones? I have a feeling that doing this might even solve the aforementioned problem as well...let me know what you guys think.

Thanks,
