3 things I am going to remember about VCDX process.

Almost everybody who has been involved in VCDX process can admit that the process goes very slowly. And always there is a pause/waiting/delay in the process. You wait for review, authorization, results, invitation to defense, email response etc. The worst thing is that nobody knows how long you have to wait. It seems to be quite random.

In my opinion the VCDX process is premature…

VMware is a great company with excellent solutions. But I feel they have not put enough resources and time on VCDX. This is not for criticizing VMware, but a call for improved and streamlined process.

If I one day get finished with my VCDX certification process, I am going to remember 3 things:

1.	Waiting
2.	Waiting
3.	Waiting

Mock Exam VCP3 not working
Hi All,

I've been studing for my VCP for the last month or so and have been using the Mock Exam for VCP3. In the last couple of days, when clicking on the link, it has been giving me an error:

*Error*! Your request cannot be processed. Please check the information before re-submitting.

I sent a few emails out but no one has gotten back to me on whether or not its just me or if its broken. I've been using the Mock Exam just to answer practice questions to get me set to hopefully take it in November. Has anyone else had this problem when accessing the Mock Exam for VCP3? It appears the exam for VCP4 works fine.

Thanks for the help.

VCI: what does that mean?
When you are VCP on vSphere, with 350 pts, I have read that you are also VCI.

But what does that really mean?

-Do you receive a certificate for the VCI ?

-Does the VCI allow you to give course on vSphere4?

-This is an official certification?
question for VCP4 about storage
hello,

in the new Config Max Guide(23/09/2009), The number of Path to a LUN has changed for FC storage. Now it is 32.

(But still 8 HBAs/host and 16 HBAs ports.)

For the VCP4 exam, what is the correct number to remember?

And do you yhink this is correct? 32 paths with 16 ports?

Passed My VCP- Does anybody know who the youngest VCP is?

Hi,

I passed my VCP exam yesterday with a score of 87. I am 20 years old and was wondering if anybody knew who the youngest VCP is? Am I far off? Don't think many other young people will have got offered the chance to attend the expensive vmware training course :-P :-D

As for the exam, I used:

The VCP-310 Blueprint

VCP-310 Exam Cram Book

The course material

Hands on Experience

I registered for the [VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage yesterday. Very excited. Really like dealing with the technology. Though, when i was browsing some other courses, i wanted to check out the price for the course above. I went through the registration processs. Then I came up on the last page which was that registration was complete. I didn't see anything dealing with payment. Do I have to pay??? Will it take the cost off my credit card from information i provided from the first course????

Please repsond quickly. Thanks

Obtaining VI3 Binaries for study purposes
Hi all,

I have had a few requests for access to the VI3 software for study purposes. As you are probably aware, you can evaluate our software for 60 days. However, if you go to the ESXi evaluation, your only option is to evaluate vSphere 4. If you need access to the VI3 software to study for the VCP on VI3 exam, evaluate VMware View. VMware View is still based on VI3 at this time, so you will be given access to the VI3 software as part of the evaluation process.

Hope this helps!

Hi all,

Certification has posted the Enterprise Administration Mock Exam and a demonstration of a Live Lab Activity from the exam!! The mock exam is available from the certification website, and when you take the exam the live lab activity is available as a resource. Additionally, I have posted the live lab activity demonstration to the documents section of the forum. Keep in mind that the mock exam only contains multiple choice items, so the demonstration is the only way to see what the live lab portion looks like.
Hurray..i cleared the VCP!
I cleared VCP..now feeling bit relaxed...it was a very very confusing paper...all answers seems to be almost same...Vmware is very clever to confuse us

But learning the Vmware pdf's helps lot..there was lots of questions from Vmware web console and VCB...there was lots of questions form ESX and especialy for files and there use.

Questions from Resource pool and DRS are very conufusing..there was Exhibit also for Resource pool..but i cope up to go through that.
Hi all,

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I have done a technical accuracy check on the items added to the mock exam, and added explanations for items missing that information. Please let me know via private message if you encounter any further difficulties.

Sorry for the delay on this, I couldn't do the review until we completed the item bank for the VCP on vSphere 4 exam.

Thanks!
Does anyone know when the VCDX will be updated from VI3 to vSphere?

Dont realy see to much point putting effort into the VCDX if they are updating it soon anyway.
Always use the latest maximums doc ?
Possibly a daft question but with regards the VCP and the changes in the product do the test venues keep right bang up to date with the latest maximums and the versions of the exams they are given, I was having a debate with a colleague who took his exam recently in which the max serial ports of a vm was discussed the revision books say 2 ports the latest maximums say 4. So we were wondering who would be right in an exam situation.

I would just like to have confidence that the correct numbers are being applied when I tick that box so thought to seek advice here about whether its the case that current maximums always apply and the current exam keeps pace with the product changes (in vi3) or is it also worth learning the differences between versions of the software.

I just found a live one. It's not so surprising that someone is looking for a VCDX before the certification is achievable as it is that the company is in my backyard where there is only 2 or 3 VCP's, never mind a VCDX.
Hi,

I've been using VI3 for a couple of years now, and taken the course in it. I think it's about time I sat an exam!

I was wondering though - are there any exam questions on the installable (or integrated) version of ESX (ie 3i)?

Thanks,

I have a question to ask . I have 10 years VMware experience and want to be VCP certified . My company have refused to pay for my courses as tehy claim i mifght leave them if certified.

My question is i can affford to pay for the exam now and the class later .

Can I register , pay and take the exam now and then take the course later on in the year when i have enough money to pay for it ...????

How does this process work????
problem in official vmware documentation

Hi,

Studying for the VCP exam, I found out there are some mismatches in the offical Vmware documentation for exs 3.5 and VI 2.5 U2 ....

In the Virtual Infrastructure Web Access Administrator Guide, on page 14, for accessing Virtual Infrastructure Web Access the browser requirements are :
􀂄 Internet Explorer 6.0
􀂄 Mozilla Firefox 1.5 or higher for Microsoft Windows
􀂄 Mozilla Firefox 1.5 or higher for Linux

While in the ESX Server 3 Installation Guide, the browser requirements are :
􀂄 Windows – Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, Netscape Navigator 7.0, Mozilla 1.X,
Firefox 1.0.7 and higher.
􀂄 Linux – Netscape Navigator 7.0 or later, Mozilla 1.x, Firefox 1.0.7 and higher.

this is quite confusing .....

any idea which is the right one ?

Thanks !

Enterprise Exam Cram Session

Would anyone that is about to take the Enterprise Exam as part of the VCDX cert be interested in a study session this Saturday, 16-Aug-2008? I can host a WebEx session for up to 14 participants. Since toll-free calling can get very expensive, I plan to use a toll conf bridge. I was thinking about a 2 to 3 hour session where we can go over the blueprint and bounce answers off each other. I have a small lab set up as well so if we need to dig into the COS commands, it will be easy enough. The lab consists of 2 ESXi servers and 1 ESX servers attached to an iSCSI SAN.

If anyone is interested, please PM me.

iSCSI auto-negotiate ?
I was talking to a friend of mine and the instructure in his IC course mentioned that iSCSI is only supported for 1Gb networks but also that iSCSI should not be set to auto-negotiate.

This confuses me a bit. Auto-negotiate is normally a must when it comes to GigaBit but which wouldn't make any sense to have 1Gb hardcoded for the iSCSI connection.

Or was his information rather 3.0 related ?

Any hints are appreciated as Ireally don't want to come across this question on Monday ...
1. VCP - Install and Configure class. If you have hardly worked with VmWare, this class is a must. Otherwise, it's not worth the time and money. Unfortunately, they require you take the class in order to be certified. The class is in no way focused on acheiving certification.

2. Lab - Hands On. I've been working with Vmware for a year on a daily basis. The on hands experience is critical to real-world confidence and performance, but for the exam, you don't absolutely need it. If you are a good reader and student, then you can pass this exam without a lab. That being said, you can become a paper VCP, but doing so is far more dangerous to your career and clients as compared to being a paper MCSE.

3. Dumps and Test prep. Testking has a test prep, which is good for getting used to how questions are presented and identifying weakspots in your understanding, but DO NOT depend on the dumps. Use these tools to help you identify week areas and attack them. Do not use these tools to supplement understanding. You will fail the exam if you do.

4. Read the PDFs. Vmware's site should be your no.1 source for learning. The VI pdfs are pretty much all you need to test. Every question I received on the exam was from information in one or more of these pdfs. Read them, then read them again. Areas that don't catch on as quickly, read them again. Make sure you understand the technology.

5. Use the Vmware Community and blogs. No you won't find speficific testing questions and answers. But there are alot of bright people having insightful conversations on the product. I gained alot of real-world, ancilliary understanding from these communities.

VCP310: Once More With Feeling!

I recently took my VCP310 exam and failed but I only failed by 4% so there's hope for me yet and I plan on getting straight back in with another exam, probably this coming week.

MS exams are, as far as I know, based on a random selection (of say 80 questions from a bigger pool of questions, say about 200) and I am curious to know if that's what the VMWare test is like. The test experience is fairly stressful (especially the run up to it ... for VMWare I start dreaming virtual PC's) and end, given that I have lived and breathed it for so long, disappointing.

What I want to know is:

Did you get many of the same questions you had on your first time through?

Did you feel they were in general much the same?

Were they harder, easier or just much the same?

And any further guidance would be greatly appreciated.
