Next VCDX Defense Board loaction?

Hi!
Just got my VCDX design exam PASS this week.:) Looking forward to face Defense board. I am located in UK, so preferred location for that would be Europe...
I was reading VMTN blog for week 41 and Duncan says that next Defense Board will be in VMWare Partner Exchange in Vegas (8-11 of February 2010).
Is that confirmed, are there slots still available, when is the next Board in Europe? I probably do not mind going to Vegas, but can someone confirm exact dates/time etc.?
I know that Design Exam pass printout says 30 calendar days before contact from VMWare, but can someone from VMWare clarify these things?

BTW, if VCDX4 comes out before getting VCDX3 (say getting two exams done...) will it be obsolete or you will still be able to finish VCDX3?

3 things I am going to remember about VCDX process.

Almost everybody who has been involved in VCDX process can admit that the process goes very slowly. And always there is a pause/waiting/delay in the process. You wait for review, authorization, results, invitation to defense, email response etc. The worst thing is that nobody knows how long you have to wait. It seems to be quite random.

In my opinion the VCDX process is premature…

VMware is a great company with excellent solutions. But I feel they have not put enough resources and time on VCDX. This is not for criticizing VMware, but a call for improved and streamlined process.

If I one day get finished with my VCDX certification process, I am going to remember 3 things:

1.	Waiting
2.	Waiting
3.	Waiting

VCDX in Australia / Asia-Pac

Hi All,

Just wondering who else is attempting to sit the VCDX certification in Australia? I believe there are some vmware employee's trying to do it, just wondering who else.

I just sat my Enterprise Admin Exam today so fingers crossed I will pass it. I have to say I found the wording of some of the questions a little interesting / ambiguous.
Contacting VCDX@vmware and Certification@vmware not being answered.
Hi

I was wondering if there was anyone here that could prod the people over at the certification and the vcdx email addresses to see if they got my email, or if there is any answer to it? -- I sent it twice now, with the most recent one being sent on 5th of November @ 10:42am GMT.

I got the auto response from certification@vmware, saying it would be answered in a couple of business days, but it has been a little longer than that now.

I was wondering if there was anything that could be done about the Design Course, as I am stuck in limbo between the old vi3 design course and the new vSphere 4 Design course...and I have to take my design exam before the end of the year. - I just want to get on to one of these courses, so that I am confident that I can ask any questions and such of things that may be on my mind, or give me a refresh into parts of what the design exam is about (I know its not going to cover everything, but I want to get along to one of these!)

Thanks

design exam result
Hi there,

i took the design exam today, but i experienced some strange things.

First of all, some operation were missing on some drag and drop parts, afterwards some strange questions on how change hardware without downtime ... with some bug answers too ....

then i did not have extra time as i'm a french guy .... with all that english text and scenarios i had to read 5 or 6 times.

and the last but not the least, how can i have the results just at the end of the exam?? A VMware examinator was hidden in the computer to evaluate the second part "viso" design?

so my score was 290 and the passing score is 300. So without 2 or 3 bugged question i guess i could pass it, but how is the design part evaluated? automatically?

i think this exam is very weird compared to the enterprise level, although i think the design exam is easier than the enterprise level. That's why i'm wondering how could i failed as i pass the enterprise with one try:)

In conclusion, i hope the design part has been taken into account as i don't want to retake this exam!!!

thank you for reading

I sat my Enterprise Admin exam yesterday and found it a bit frustrating TBH. Obviously I might've passed so don't want to say too much, and I don't really know how much I can say about the exam itself.

Is there any defence against potential misconfig of the lab environment? I also found some of the lab questions very vague.

Like I say, if I pass then c'est la vie, but if I don't I'd like to get some feedback from the test creators (offline obviously).
I got my invite to the Enterprise Administrator exam the other day, booked in for the 4th of September fingers crossed!

However I have always wonderd, how many are there out there, I know it is a very high level exam and that it is hard to get, so I am assuming not a lot. However it's always good to feed back to my employers that what I am doing is worth it, and holds some weight in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks!
I'm told I'll be able to sit my first VI3 VCDX Administrator exam in a few weeks and although vSphere is out I'm happy to do the VI3 path now and do any upgrade next year rather than wait.

However, I want to use a project I've just finished which was a vSphere server consolidation project for my defence. Is this possible or does it need to be VI3 project?
VMware Design Course
Hi all

I was wondering if you could help me. I know the Design Course is slowly being replaced with the vSphere 4 version, however I am on the road to do the Design Exam, and I would like to attend this course. It tells me it is not a pre-req but I still want to go, just to keep me up to date and such.

I have looked online, and I can see the number of dates getting shorter and shorter, however everyone I have emailed about it have not got back to me (the companies running the courses, vcdx@vmware, etc etc). There is only one online course left, however I would like to try and get this course done with a trainer.

Is there anyone can point me in the right direction of any emails I can try, phone numbers etc?

Thanks

I am not sure if this is on purpose. But in a few Visio-like questions, you have 2 "similar" choices. The only difference is that one of them is written with lower case and the other one with upper case!

This is NOT from exam. But only an example:

Execute Storage vMotion

Execute storage vMotion

The only difference is storage and Storage. Which one is the correct one for exam result algorithm?

Hi all,

With the submission of a design for the VCDX process, can someone please clarify:

Is this based on one of your EXISTING designs ... or are you suppose to do a new design based on some hypothetical scenario provided by VMware?

Candidates, who have not English as their first language, should get more time for VCDX design exam. It is not unusual practice for other exams that these candidates get 30-45 minutes more time. The VCDX design exam contains many scenarios with a lot of text.
Design Exam Weighting
Does anyone know / understand exactly how the 2 main Design exam portions are weighted. I took and passed the Design exam today but had a strange experience in doing it. I felt very confident having answered the 51 questions.

When I got to the Visio portion I did not know what to expect so after 5 minutes and very little placed on the screen, I pressed the NEXT button to see what lay ahead and confirm I was leaving myself enought time if there were additional questions. WARNING: DO NOT DO THIS. Unlike the previous portion of the exam or almost any other type of computer administered exam this will promptly END the Visio portion and the entire exam without so much as a prompt or warning or a chance to review what you have done. I told the proctor and he opened an incident. This should be addressed by Pearson or VMware. Although it still ended happily for me others may not be so lucky.

Does anyone know what the final Visio portion weighting is towards the exam or if it is even accounted for in the score. Is is subjectively reviewed later or during the Design submission / defense ?

Thanks
I've been reading al lot of post about the Enterprise Admin Exam and collecting as much info as possible to prepare for the exam. Now I'm wondering how difficult the exam is. The VCP exam wasn't really difficult as long as you knew all the exact facts.

A lot of people post material to prepare for the exam but they don't mention what they think of the exam. In the past I met Duncan when I did a review for us, so I know how much he knows about esx. So Duncan was this exam a piece of cake for you?

Hi,

I am looking for VCDX certification. All the requirement are great except the last one: Submit, present and defend a successful VMware Infrastructure design and implementation plan. I am not english native so my english is not perfect. I can read and write without problem, but to defend a design and implementation plan in another language seem very hard.

Does someone has done this presentation in another language than english? I am french native (from Quebec, Canada).

If I am obliged, I will do it in english but it would be much harder.
I've tried sending email to vcdx at vmware.com, certification at vmware.com, tina, and jon but no luck. the only reply that I get was on 11th Sept 2009 as bellow. Every day I've send email asking for updates but no response. Is this normal?
I was under the impression it was taking longer than two weeks. I guess I'll see how long it takes to get an exam date now
Enterprise Admin Exam - 3rd Question from the End Killed ESX Servers

Hi all,
I sat my Enterprise Admin exam this past Tuesday. The exam wasn't as bad as I was expecting but I did study quite a bit for it (thanks again to all those who've made study guides for it. I've used most I can find!)

Only problem is I ran into some major issues during the 4th question from the end of the test. Without getting into or posting to much about the question (trying to be reasonable here) I'll describe what happened. During the live lab section, what the question "setup" as the environment actually didn't match the configuration of the ESX server. I thought maybe it was a typo or something on the question and perhaps that didn't really matter, until I did what the question stated which made the service console become disconnected from the network. I knew this was going to happen since I followed the question exactly. It was going to disconnect because of the configuration mis-match between the question and the lab. I figured that perhaps since I was near the end of the test that I wouldn't have to do anything else to that ESX server that is disconnected. Wrong. Two of the last questions on the test wanted you to do something else to the ESX server that had become disconnected.
I informed the moderator and explained the situation and they went through contacting their testing support, logging "an incident number" and said that the incident notes will be sent along with my test.

Is that true? Does anyone know how this issue will be handled especially since I wasn't able to do the last two questions, which the live lab questions make up a huge portion of your overall score?!

Thanks all!
Hi,
I am studying for the VCDX and the Enterprise Admin exam and was
looking around at some of the community guides (which are great!) but i
didnt really find anything that was what i was looking for. So i
decided to write one up myself. It began as a mix/max/syntax doc, then
i decided to build it up as something to give to my students as further
reading. It is v0.1 probably has typos in it, but hopefully no
glaringly WRONG content Have uploaded as a .doc so you guys can edit
as you see fit for your own purposes. If anyone wants to contribute to
it, PM me as i would welcome it!
Anyway - enjoy!
VCDX Enterprise Administration and Design Exams available at VMworld 2009!

VMware will be providing onsite testing services at VMworld 2009. A great deal is available on the VCP exam (see my post at http://communities.vmware.com/thread/222191?tstart=0 ), but more importantly, the VCDX Enterprise Administration and Design Exams will be offered! You must be pre-authorized to take these exams, so if you are already in process to take the Enterprise Administration Exam, contact certification@vmware.com to inquire about the availability of the exam at VMworld. You can register at Pearson VUE for the Design Exam, but again you must already be in process and have authorization from VMware to take the exam. The link for registering with Pearson for the Design Exam is http://pearsonvue.com/vmware/vmworld/ . For the Enterprise Administration Exam only, you must contact us directly.

Look forward to seeing you at VMworld!
Enterprise Administration Mock Exam and Live Lab Activity Demonstration posted!!!
Hi all,

Certification has posted the Enterprise Administration Mock Exam and a demonstration of a Live Lab Activity from the exam!! The mock exam is available from the certification website, and when you take the exam the live lab activity is available as a resource. Additionally, I have posted the live lab activity demonstration to the documents section of the forum. Keep in mind that the mock exam only contains multiple choice items, so the demonstration is the only way to see what the live lab portion looks like.
VCDX questions ...
Hi ...

I was checking the information and I understand that VCDX is based on VI3 products, is it right ?

I know that VMware is releasing the VCP exam for vSphere (ESX4) in August 1. The question is, if I register the Enterprise Admin and Infrastructure Design exams for VCDX are going to be based in VI3 or vSphere ?

Thanks in advance.
I am studying to give enterprise exam. In the Section 6 - logging Objective 6.2 I am confused with the knowledge needed ...

1) Explain default log file characteristics

2) Describe options for customizing service console log behaviour

3) Describe SC log consolidation?

I am wondering how are people working on these areas. I have already refered to this link - http://www.b3rg.nl/vcdx/section-6-logging/objective-6.2-configure-service-console-log-behavior.html
I'm new on here so just thought i'd pop on and say hi.

I've just registered for the VCDX program, Going to be taking my Enterprise exam in around a months time.

Has anyone got any materials that they used for revision that they would like to share?

I'm pretty confident for the exam as i've been designing and deploying VMware on an enterprise level since it's infancy, but any heads up's are always useful!

Thanks Guys...

Enterprise Admin Exam - Final words of advice????
Hi everyone.

I'm sitting the Enterprise Admin exam tomorrow morning, and have spent the day at home today doing some final revision.

Just wondering if anyone who's taken the exam has any last words of advice for me before I take the exam? I'm hoping the a few years' experience coupled with the DSA course and some additional command-line practice are going to suffice, but having read here and elsewhere that the exam is 'tough' I'm still a little worried. I think I'm more worried about having to pay out the extortionate fee to retake it if I fail!!!

Cheers,
Is anyone VCDX Certified?
I got an email from a recruiter today looking for someone to fill a contract and they preferred someone who is VCDX certified but would consider a VCP. Is the complete VCDX certification available yet and if so has anyone gotten it yet?

Thanks
Schedule the VCDX Design Exam
Hi, I see that some people is already VCDX, congratulation.

At this time I've only passed the phase 2

My question is how can I schedule my Design Exam? It seems that is possible to do directly on-line with VUE (http://www.vue.com/vmware/vcdx/), but I can't using the on-line method.
Have you used the phone or directly the testing center method?

Thanks,

Hi,

I had completed my VCP in April 2008 on VI3. Now I am planning to do VCDX or any other relevant certification from VMware so as become expert in VMware Technology. Can anyone suggest the suitable PATH for me? My background is like this:

Certifications:

1. RHCE Certified

2. VCP Certified.

My Work Experience is related to Windows and Network Administration as well as Linux Administration. Also I had worked as a QA for network testing for VMware through Patni Computer Systems Ltd.

Awaiting for your suggestions.

Thanks and Regards,
When will the design exam be available? Also when can we submit an architecture for review?

Two questions.

I actually have several candidates of work I've done for VMware PSO over the last two quarters and they seemed pretty happy with my work so I'm pretty confident there. My last major hurdle then will be this design exam.

When will this be available? I keep hearing "end of this month" but I've been hearing that since september.

I just found a live one. It's not so surprising that someone is looking for a VCDX before the certification is achievable as it is that the company is in my backyard where there is only 2 or 3 VCP's, never mind a VCDX.
Vmware Enterprise Exam Study Giude - Cheat Sheet

Like most VCP's, I'm going to begin working towards the VCDX certification and was wondering if some of the more experienced community members would be interested in creating a study guide - cheat sheet type document.

My idea is to piggy back off the exam blueprint and either provide instructions on how to complete the skills required or provide a pointer on where the information can be found. For example, one of the skills needed to pass the exam is the ability to enable root SSH logins. In the cheat sheet, we would either provide instructions on how to enable this access or provide a pointer to something like VMware_administration.pdf page 432.

While I can probably find most of this stuff myself, making this a team effort would make the studying process a little more enjoyable.

Is there any interest within the community for this type of document?
VI4 - VCP / VCDX certification upgrade path
Hi all

I know this might be a little premature, but I have been wondering lately if there is going to be an upgrade path from VCP3 to VCP4?

Recently I have been thinking about starting on the path to a VCDX certification, but it looks to be based on VI3 (exam blue print). What will happen when VI4 (vSphere) comes out? Is it worth waiting for VI4 to come out first and then the updated exams.

From what I have read, VI4 has been in beta testing since around Aug 2008 and so in theory should be out in the not too distant future. VCDX has four parts to it and only the first two are ready for testing on (VCP and the Enterprise Admin exam), will it be ready before VI4 comes out?

Anyone have any ideas, I'm confused and I'm sure I'm not the only one
I just got the "congrats you qualify to take the Enterprise Administration Exam" email from VMware and filled out the online questionnaire. After that it said someone would call me to tell me when and where I can take the exam. Will I have several options as to when I take it? Anyone know how long it takes them to call you to schedule? I'd like to know how long I actually have to study for this thing!

Has anyone officially certified with VCDX yet?
I know VCDX certification is fairly new to the program but would like to know if anyone has certified it yet. If not, anyone is planning or scheduled to take VCDX exam and once you took the exam, would it be nice to share your thoughts and experience with the community so everyone can vision what it involves. Can we have precise explanations to what steps required for VCDX and what involves with those exams neither written/hands-on lab. What is the total cost to VCDX excluded travel expenses?

If you found this information useful, please consider awarding points for "Correct" or "Helpful". Thanks!!!
Heads up to anyone planning to taking the Enterprise exam. I just received an e-mail from VMware Certification indicating that "Effective for all exams beginning on September 8th, the Enterprise Administration Exam will cover VMware Infrastructure 3.5. The new blueprint has been attached for your review!"

A quick look at the blueprint reveals that the 3.x DSA course is no longer sufficient.
Enterprise Exam Cram Session

Would anyone that is about to take the Enterprise Exam as part of the VCDX cert be interested in a study session this Saturday, 16-Aug-2008? I can host a WebEx session for up to 14 participants. Since toll-free calling can get very expensive, I plan to use a toll conf bridge. I was thinking about a 2 to 3 hour session where we can go over the blueprint and bounce answers off each other. I have a small lab set up as well so if we need to dig into the COS commands, it will be easy enough. The lab consists of 2 ESXi servers and 1 ESX servers attached to an iSCSI SAN.

If anyone is interested, please PM me.

What are the details required in a Design Plan and Defend part of VDCX exam!
Hello All,

I'm wondering what are the requirements within the Design and Defend plan part of VCDX exam? I suppose you will have a complete architecture plan and implementation phases including?

1. Scope of Work
2. Visio Diagram
3. Excel details of IP, masks, hostnames etc..
4. Word documents details about the steps by steps implementation like technical guide instruction with screenshots?
5. Details usage of hardware resources (cpu, ram, storage, network configurations) virtualize ratio 20:1 per ESX host or 8 VMs per core etc..type
6. Fluently explain about your designs from (security, storage, networking, administration, assessment) perspectives?

Are these enough or something that we have to focus on to have the best Design and Defend plan. Can we use our existing client's project details and work on it or use fatious company and design it from scratch? Each client's we implemented are different in scope of work from 5 ESX hosts to 100+ hosts which can be different in designs. Any minimum requirements to get it pass this part of exam?

If you found this information useful, please consider awarding points for "Correct" or "Helpful". Thanks!!!
