Where to learn about VMware products?
I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I can go to find more information on Vmware products, such as more in depth information on things like HA and Vmotion and just all of the infastructure products in general?

As well as things like certifications, what they cover, where to get them, what types there are etc?

Basically I'm wondering if there is a central location for all of this?

I took a virtualization class at a college earlier this year, and most of it was on virtualization. I am also a customer as well, and manage multiple ESX servers in a Virtual Infastructure, but I don't really have access to a lot of material to learn more about it all other than searching the web or the forums for issues that come up when they come up.

So can anyone tell me where can I find this type of information aside from going through forums and hoping I come across a thread with something good in it?

Thanks

VMware vSphere: Fast Track [V4] Question

Has anyone taken the VMware vSphere: Fast Track V4 course? According to the Course datasheet, the course scope is five extended days of instructor-led classroom training, plus six self-paced eLearning courses and I'm wondering what topics these six self-paced eLearning courses cover.

Thanks
Quality of instruction online versus classroom. . .

All:

Of the courses I have taken in the past around my area, the instructors did not seem to be all that knowledgeable about real world application of the products. I don't fault them for that, as they are professional instructors, and not professional implementers. But I am going to sign up for vSphere training, and I have a question.

Knowing that the local instructors aren't all that great, is the quality of the online instructors any better? I understand the advantage of doing it online, as far as no travel, etc. But are there other advantages? There is zero cost advantage, so there has to be something else it offers that classroom training does not.

Welcome to the Customer Education forum

Greetings, all. I am VMware's Education Services Product Manager; I've been working in VMware's customer education program, as an instructor, course developer, and now product manager, since 2002.

Through this forum, I hope to get feedback and suggestions from VMware customers and partners about how our program could serve them better. Example topics: What courses should we offer that we presently don't? How could we improve our current courses? Are we offering training in the right formats: instructor-led, live online, self-paced online ("eLearning"), or blends? Why don't we have training in your hometown?

Hello!

In the "Whats New in vSphere" course, do you actually do a upgrade from 3.5 or do you only talk about how it should be done?

Further, do you cover vShield Zones or Data Protection? vApps? vCloud?

virtualization training
I'm fortunate enough to have a company with a large IT training budget. I have already taken the "install and configure" VMware training class and I am a VCP. I'm trying to decide on another training class to take for this year. I would like to take the DSA VMware training class, but not just yet since the VCDX cert is not complete. I want the VCDX exam process to be established for a while before I get into that.

My question is this... If you had a pick of a virtualization training class to take, which one would you take? I really have a pick of any type of training I want to attend, but I want to focus on virtualization. Location and cost do not matter (as long it is in the US). I am already a VCP, CCNA, MCSE and Security+. The company is already going to send us to ITIL and MCITP (MCSE 2008) training this year. I'm really looking for a training course that covers all virtualization aspect and maybe some linux. I have been to Hyper-V events, and I'm not to impressed just yet. But I would like something that revolves around virtualization.

VMWare training
I am wondering what my best options are for VMWare ESX 3.5 training are/ I have been working in IT for 11+ years and have been working with VMWare for 2 months but I would like some formal training. Can I get away with Comuter based learning or do I need to get a class room solution.

I was looking at this for computer based http://www.trainsignal.com/VMware-ESX-Server-Training-P14.aspx?gclid=CPrvh9ro_JcCFQJNagodBUzFDg.

Basically I would like the best deal for the least amount of money. I want to get as much information as possible but based on budgetary concerns I dont want the classes to be overly expensive.
I asked VMware Education but have not yet received a reply.
What is the approximate $$$ value of the 30 PSO credits included with the VI3 Midsize Acceleration Kit??
I've seen comments in this forum that these credits cover the cost of the I & C course.

I am trying to get management to approve the Fast Track class for me as a refresher before I attempt the VCP but it is proving difficult to convince them the class is worth $5500. Does anyone know of a way to get a discount on that price as it seems awfully high.
I looking to attend the VMware Site Recovery Manager in the upcoming weeks. I just completed the Install & Configure v3.5 back in September. Am I required to take this pre-test? I'm terrible at test taking first of all which showed on my first attempt at the VCP exam reaching only 53%. The pre-test gives you only three chances and I'm wondering what happens if you fail all three times? Would there be a probation period I would have to wait before attempting again? I'm down to my last attempt so I'm preparing more until I'm ready.

Hey guys

I signed up to take an online class for the VI3 Install and Config

Just wondering for those who took it or if someone knew, whether if there's an alternative option besides using a phone line to listen in to the course.
I was hoping to take the course at home, but I do not have a phone at home, only my cell phone.

Any input is appreciated.

Dear All,

Recently, we have purchased 1 Bundle Promotion of VI3 which includes:

3 Licenses of VI3

1 License of VirtualCenter Foundation

Training

Support

VMware has sent us an mail from PSO with the Account ID and 30 of Credits Account.

The question is, how we can get the training, licenes as well as the Support?

Bundle Promotion
VMware Infrastructure Midsize Acceleration Kit
3 Licenses of VI Enterprise, 1 License of VirtualCenter Foundation, Training + Support
$16,909.00

Best Regards,
Online courses from VMware

User kwajalein asked how online training works at VMware. There are actually two different kinds: live online training and self-paced online training.

Self-paced online training is called "Web-based training" or "eLearning" by many folks. These are online-only courses consisting of guided demonstrations and (in most cases) interactive simulations. You'll find these in our regular course catalog, marked with this icon:

Some of these courses are free, and others have a fee associated. For all those with a fee, users get 90 days of unlimited access.

Live online training is a delivery option for many of our instructor-led classes: an alternative to travel. These courses have the same lectures and labs as our in-person instructor-led training. The lectures and discussions take place through a Web- and tele-conference, and the lab exercises are done using the same remote access to hardware that our in-person classes use. Live-online courses are listed in our course catalog together with the in-person public deliveries of the same course, such as these listings for Install and Configure.

Up until now, all our live online training has worked on the same daily schedule as our in-person training: four days of lecture and labs, scheduled contiguously. This summer we'll be introducing an option in which people can choose to do some or all of the course on weekends or before and after their regular workday. Stay tuned for more information on that.

Fast Track V3.5 vs. Install and Configure V3.5 Courses
I have 2 goals;

1. I wish to have the certification by taking the test for VMware Certified Professional.

2. I need experience with all VMWare products, assuming some are not covered on the test.

From all that I can gather, Install and Configure is all that's covered by the test; although I need to know all the products.

I've done bootcamps before; if it's possible, I feel I have the discipline to do the fast-track.

Questions:

1. Does Install and configure practically cover what the certification covers ( I assume additional material (free?)will be required)?

2. We already use ESX Server 3.5 and VirtualCenter 2.5 in production. I have sufficient hardware available; will I have the software available to me to create a test environment for practice? I cannot tinker with production.

3. Can I assume some kit comes before the class? I need 1 month to play.

Any suggestions, please!

Advanced "scripting" course for VI3 and Console OS
Back when I took my course for my VCP, the instructor spoke of an "advanced" VMware course dedicated to command line scripting and using the console os in detail. I have a very large Unix background, and I am interested in the things he spoke about, yet when I search VMware education and "Teh Google" I find no mention of such a course.

I have been lurking in the VMTN forums for longer than my ID may show, but I have not seen any mention of such a program. Does a course structured specifically to managing ESX through the console OS exist?
