Rocky Mountain Oracle Users Group Training Days Invitation
Hi All,

We (Rocky Mountain Oracle Users Group - RMOUG) would like to invite VMUG members to participate in the RMOUG Training Days event. We are a group of primarily technical Oracle software users and we believe that we could benefit from having members from VMUG present information around vmware best practices, tips/tricks as well as best practices or case studies. (Or anything else you would think is applicable for that matter :))

We have a seen a great increase in the number of vmware installations that run Oracle products in the last few years, making vmware a new and very interesting technology to us. In addition, I am guessing that some VMUG members come in contact with Oracle software as well and there will be plenty of opportunity for you to attend various Oracle sessions at Training Days in order to increase your knowledge and collaborate with us.

For more information, here is a link to our website: http://www.rmoug.org/

Here is the training days invitation and registration information:
August 2008 Denver VMUG slides

I currently only have the slides from VMware and Eric Siebert, when I get the ones from ViaWest I will get them posted as well.

What did everyone think? Location, content, etc....everything is open to discussion so that we can help make the meetings as useful as possible all the way around.
Introduction - Denver VMware User Group

I thought I would introduce myself to the Denver VMware User Group Forum. My name is Calvin Griffin and I am a technical architect at The TriZetto Group located in the Denver Tech Center. I am one of the user group leaders trying to get the user group up and running in Denver.

My background includes mostly areas from the Intel world - Novell, Microsoft, and Citrix. However, I have quite a bit of experience in other areas. I have been using VMware Workstation for quite some time now and for the past year have been using VMware ESX. I was responsible at my company for evaluating VMware, selling it to management & engineers, completing a proof-of-concept/pilot, and implementing the technology for development/test/production and disaster recovery.

I agree with Tim Teller that VMware is the future of server computing. I am excited about the technology and future usage of it and I am glad to be a part of it. In fact I have so much faith in it, I just completed my VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification.

I look forward to meeting everyone and discussing VMware current usage, future usage, and issues. I will be attending VMworld Oct. 27-29 so I hope to see some of you that would be interested in coming to a Denver User Group. I believe the plan is on Friday the lunch room will be split out by geographic areas, so I should not be hard to locate. Also, it is planned that the user group leaders to wear a nice bright orange shirt. So I shouldn’t be hard to see either!

Anyone have any comments, suggestions, etc. about the user group meeting? I thought that everything went pretty well this time and we got some good info. We are still working on finding a location on the south side of Denver or even downtown so if you have any ideas post them up here or PM me.

I'm working with esiebert7625 to get the presentations posted, we should have that set up soon...

VMware Education Classes

There is a relatively new class being run by VMware called "VMware Infrastructure 3: Fast Track Program" This class is 5 days long and is basically 2 classes in one. At the moment it is still a Pilot program with only a few select Cities in the US being chosen, Denver is not one of them at the moment. I did contact VMware and they said that if there was enough interest to come from the Denver area then they would consider holding a class here.

If you would like to read about the course go to the link below.
http://mylearn1.vmware.com/mgrreg/courses.cfm?ui=www&a=one&id_subject=1176

The email address for VMware Education if you would like to contact them asking for a class to be held in Denver is: "education@vmware.com"

Thank you.

Welcome to the Denver VMWare User Group Forum

My name is Tim Teller. I am a consultant engineer at Boulder Corporation in Boulder. I have been using VMWare for many years now, mostly workstation. I know, it sounds like a VMWare Anonymous line.

Last year, a need for GSX and ESX was introduced in the environment that I worked. I used to do proof of concepts with VMWare Workstation and then I started to do them on GSX. Since the release of ESX, I have been creating production VMs.

VMWare is the future of server computing!!!
I haven't tried any of them out (Only got a chance to download and un-tar them) Hopefully soon I will be able to free up some time to play with them. Please post any success/failures with them so that all can benefit from these. There isn't alot of docs on how to use them (for us linux newbie's). One of the only hits that you get from the main community message board is

Visual Studio .NET 2003 Remote Debugging on VMWare Workstation 5.0

Well gentlemen, I'm posting this every where I can think of in hopes of finding a solution. Here's my scenario:

- Guest OS: Windows 2000 Advanced Server, SP4

Host OS has Visual Studio .NET 2003 Pro installed, guest OS is running IIS with an ASP.NET solution that I can successfully open and build from VS.NET in the host. No firewall running for this exercise, using the standard VMNet8 DHCP to provide an IP to the guest and NAT is enabled. What I CANNOT do is debug the solution due to permissions errors. Host and guess are both running in a workgroup named "DEBUG," with the same id/password logged into both machines, both ID's with admin privileges. Visual Studio .NET remote debugging tools are installed on the guest OS with IIS, the id is a member of the Debugger Users group on the guest, ASPNET_WP.EXE is running under the system account as defined in the machine.config on the guest.

Based upon innumerable Google hits and MSDN KB articles' reading I suspect my problem is with DCOM, but dcomnfg.exe keeps throwing "The parameter is incorrect" modal dialogue errors whenever I try to do anything to the custom access permissions for the Machine Debug Manager (MDM.EXE running as a service) properties.

Any assistance appreciated in advance.
