Consultants Washington DC
Could someone please suggest a consulting group in the DC area. We currently are 90% Server Virtualized and 30% Desktop and do 90% of everything ourselves but we need that occasional expertise that goes beyond ours. We also need EMC support.

Thank you

Data Storage Day Welcome

The Evolution of Storage Networking and the Current Trends in the Industry
This session sets the stage for the subsequent lectures at Data Storage Day. We start by looking at how today's enterprise SAN and NAS solutions evolved from humble direct-attached disk and file servers. We then turn our sights to the industry trends that are shaping the current wave of innovation. Specifically, we are interested in deduplication, storage virtualization, solid state storage devices, automated management of tiered storage, cloud storage, and massively scalable file systems.

11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Deduplication and Single Instance Storage: Practical Applications for Backups, Archiving, and Primary Storage
Deduplication (dedupe) and single instance storage (SIS) are perhaps the hottest topics in the storage industry. EMC just acquired a dedupe startup for over two billion dollars! Meanwhile, all of the leading backup vendors are scrambling to integrate dedupe into their products. But this is just the beginning of a major new technology trend! Dedupe offers benefits not just for backups, but also for cloud storage, archiving, virtual desktops, and even primary storage for high performance production servers and VMs.

This session is broken into three parts:

The first section discusses the fundamental technology of dedupe, revealing both the shortcomings of current approaches and the opportunities for new solutions.

The second section focuses on dedupe for backups. We illustrate different ways to integrate dedupe into backup systems as well as revealing non-dedupe approaches that might deliver similar results at lower costs.

Lastly, we describe applications for dedupe and SIS in rich media archives, virtual desktops, and primary storage.

1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.

Lunch Break

Visit the Vendor Exhibition. Find out more about the exhibition here\

2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

Tiered Storage and Life Cycle Management: Running the Gamut All the Way from Solid State Disk to Linear Tape
The goal of this session is to identify the most effective ways to scale storage performance and capacity while controlling costs. The session is broken into three parts:

We begin with a general discussion of tiered storage, suggesting different properties of storage devices that can be used to define tiers. We raise the question of whether it makes sense (financially and from the standpoint of complexity) to roll out a tiered strategy versus settling on a single class of storage for all of one's needs.

The next section analyzes the performance and reliability properties of different types of storages devices. We look at spinning disk (15K, 10K, SATA), solid state disk (MLC, SLC, RAM), and even tape drives.

Lastly, we look at technologies for automating the management of tiered storage in a variety of different scenarios.

Topics covered include: solid state disk, virtual file systems, file stubbing, archival file system, tape file system, NAS accelerators, file system caching, block I/O caching, and hot-spotting.

3:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Break

4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

A Primer on Cloud Storage and High Capacity File Systems
The momentum behind cloud computing has really lit a fire under the chairs of developers of storage management software and file systems. Conventional storage technologies cannot scale limitlessly, not to mention that they are too rigid to expand and contract with the ebb and flow of the cloud. The cloud demands a whole new class of file systems and storage management approaches. As it turns out, the problems being tackled by cloud storage providers are problems that exist in private large-scale storage sites, so regardless of whether you plan to put compute resources in the cloud, you might find that cloud storage technology is relevant to you.

This session looks at the current state of cloud storage solutions while defining the basic terminology and illustrating the major problems left to solve. Special focus is given to object-based storage models as alternatives to conventional file systems.

5:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

Storage Day Questions, Answers, and Wrap-Up

5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.

Exhibit Hall Happy Hour

Join us at the Vendor Exhibition for refreshments, and take the opportunity to learn about the latest products and technologies.

7:30 p.m.-11:30 p.m.

Evening Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions
August 13th Presentation and Topics for Next DC VMUG

In case anyone missed it, Mike Szafranski uploaded his presentation from the August 13th DC VMUG to the documents section of this site. Here's the link: http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-10503

I am working on choosing a topic for our next meeting and want your help. We can focus on a broad topic (e.g. storage) or get specific around a particular issue (e.g. using powershell scripting to report on guests with .ISO's attached). I would also welcome anyone who attended VMworld 2009 to report on the conference and specifics of what they learned, highlights from a particular session, etc.

We also would welcome any customer/user presentations during VMUG meetings - anything from reference architecture to how you solved a specific problem in your environment would be great. Real-life user presentations will help to keep the VMUG meetings technically focused and interactive.

Please feel free to reply or send me a direct message with topic ideas or to volunteer for a presentation at our next meeting.

Thanks!
DC VMUG - October

Hi Everyone,

Please check back often as I will posting information about any upcoming VMUG's.

I work for Infinite Group, Inc. (http://www.igius.com/), and I am responsible for coordinating the VMUG's. If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns in regards to the VMUGs (to be added to the mailing list, topics, sponsors, etc), please feel free to email me! vreese@igius.com

We'd love to have feedback from you as to whether you found the previous VMUG informative, or perhaps what topics you would want to learn about at the next event (like vSphere 4!)

We are planning to host VMUG in DC this October (so that it is Metro accessible), but there are more details that need to be discussed before any decisions are made!

I look forward to hearing from everyone.
Is it possible to do a Linux P2V to a VMware Workstation virtual machine?
I have a CentOS5 flavor of Linux running a physical machine and I want to virtualize it into a VMware Workstation virtual machine, but am unable to. The VMware Converter standalone version has been installed on the Linux machine, and the server has been started successfully. I've installed VMware Converter standalone version for Windows on another physical Windows machine and can select the Linux box as the source (meaning that I can connect to the Linux box), but for the destination, only the virtual infrastructure is shown (ESX environment), which I do not have. Am I doing something wrong or is this a limitation of free VMware converter standalone version?

Vizioncore vs. Veeam - thoughts? Am I missing any?
Good afternoon.

We're in the planning stages of our new vSphere4 build-out. Hardware is in, storage is in and is being configured as we speak. (It's almost like Christmas in June) In preparate for the moitoring - performance reporting portion of this build, I've been researching both Vizioncore and Veeam. I've been known to miss the completely obvious, so I will ask this just to make sure -- is there another big player in the reporting/monitoring field that I'm missing? We have a current ESX 3.0.1 build that is doing the basic of the basic (4 filemaker servers, a couple departmental sandboxes, etc) all of which is on local storage, with a NFS mount for clones, templates, etc. so a robust monitoring, reporting tool wasn't required. We gave the old vRanger (?) product a while ago, and it was so so. Haven't tried any of the Veeam products yet, but from what I've read, seems to be a bit ahead as of this writing as far as popularity.

Has anyone in this group used any of the two vendor's products, specifically the monitoring / reporting ones, but would like to hear your thoughts on all of them.

I may have met a few of you at the VMForum 2009 at the Reagan building... a little too high-level sales pitch rather than a meat and potatoes vSphere4 run-through, which is what I wished it would have been, but that's another discussion for later.....

Looking forward to meeting everyone at the July 2009 meeting.

Thanks,

Hi Everyone,

Please check back often as I will posting information about any upcoming VMUG's. I work for Infinite Group, Inc. (www.IGIus.com), and I am responsible for coordinating the VMUG's. If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns in regards to the VMUGs (as to location, times, topics, sponsors, etc), please feel free to email me! jfanning@igius.com

We'd love to have feedback from you as to whether you found the previous VMUG informative, or perhaps what topics you would want to learn about at the next event (like vSphere 4!)

There is talk about having a VMUG in Reston, but there are more details that need to be discussed before any decisions are made!

I look forward to hearing from everyone.
Pay scale in Washington DC area
Hi all,

Your group seemed the best one to ask this question due to your location, apologies if there is a better place for it.

My company is currently in the process of moving it's office from Wales in the UK to around the Washington DC area, with rumours of Montogomery County being selected (though nothing has been confirmed). This week they are asking each member for staff if they would like to relocate and if so, what they would like for relocation and pay at the other end.

I'm not too familiar with any jobsites in the US but I've been trying to arm myself with a few figures on pay in this area before I go into the meetings as well as researching relocation packages I should go for.

Could anyone tell me what you would expect/hope to get for a Systems Engineer, 5 years experience with VCP/MCSE? Don't want to go into too much detail but what sort of pay scale is average in this area for this sort of position (or what would I need to live comfortably)? Alternatively could anyone point me in the direction of any job sites for the industry that I could search for examples?

Thanks in advance

JB
How do I output VirtualCenter folder Permissions using Powershell?
I need to find a way to output the folder/virtualmachine role permissions to a document or spreadsheet. When in VC using the Virtual Machines & Templates inventory view you can see all of your datacenters and folders listed. I need to output the list of the entire structure to file. I tried the Appendix: Perl Script for listing all role assignments in the http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_vc_roles.pdfhttp://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_vc_roles.pdf. That only tells me the VM permissions and I need all child folder permissions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Standalone ESX servers to run a single Windows VM

Is anyone using standalone ESX servers to run a single Windows VM, in a production environment. My company signed an agreement, and we have to use 5000 ESX Enterprise licenses. One suggestion my boss came up with was to load ESX on all of our new servers, and then load the Windows OS on the ESX server as a VM. The one big problem that me and the VM support staff have with this, is the management aspect. With all of these standalone ESX servers that would flood our environment, we would have to manually patch each one of the host and the guests OS that is on them. I just basically want to know if anybody else is doing this in a production environment, and if so, how is it being managed...
I took the class a year or so ago and can't seem to find the books in my stack of VMware stuff. I'm studying for the VCDX and realized that a good portion of these questions come from this class. I'm going through all the published PDFs and my notes but it would be a lot quicker to have this book.

If I can borrow this book for a week or so I will share my VCDX: Enterprise Exam Study Guide with you. I'm taking the test in a week or so. I'll drive to come pick it up and even buy coffee.

If someone could make this happen on Monday I would greatly appreciate it!

Cheers and happy Independence Day,
Hey all,
Just recieved word that my facility will be closing. I don't know all the details yet, but I have been "out of the game" for awhile...about 8 years. Alot has changed since then, as well as my job duties. Was just curious what the market looked like for this area for VMWare admins. I will be working through July, but obviously need to start looking now. If anyone knows of anything in the area, let me know please!! I have already submitted my resume to Stefan at iGeekSystems. Anyone know of any other good job search resources for VMWare admins? I have done some searching on washpost jobs and monster, but alot of them require active clearances, which I do not have (but am capable of recieving them). Ideally, the northern VA area would be best. Thanks for your help.

What are folks doing in terms of management solutions? I assume everyone has VirtualCenter but are folks looking at other specialized management technologies to deal with config management, "sprawl", performance management, etc or are you relying on your physical vendors to deliver solutions for your virtual infrastructure?

Recap: April 23rd DC Metro VMUG Meeting

http://www.systemsarchitech.com/en/article/92/recap-april-dc-metro-vmug

Many thanks to the great folks from NetApp for sponsoring our third DC Metro VMWare User Group meeting last night. The event was held at McCormick & Schmick's at the Reston Town Center. |!http://www.systemsarchitech.com/images/63.jpg!|

We had terrific guest speakers last night including Andy Murphy, Principle Systems Engineer at NetStar Systems International, Desi Whalen, Systems Engineer at NetApp and crowd favorite, Andrew Stueve, Senior System Engineer at Neovera.

First up, Andy gave a great presentation regarding Distributed Power Management including how his organization is calculating energy savings thanks to DPM. Andy gave a before and after take on his DPM-enabled VI3 cluster, and provided some food for thought to all of the energy-conscious in the room.

The Q&A from this session covered topics such as headaches along the way, considerations for HA pools and potential solutions regarding scheduled tasks.

Next up, Desi Whalen from NetApp gave a very technically engaging presentation regarding the advantages of using a NetApp provided storage infrastructure under a VMWare environment. Desi provided some great use-cases including backup strategies and virtual machine provisioning. By far, the most compelling argument was the cloning of 100 virtual machines in under 15 minutes. Good show!

Last night was also the first time that a show of hands resulted in a majority - the question? "Who here has used or is using NetApp storage?"

Finally, Andrew Stueve shared his experiences with the 3.0 -> 3.5 upgrade process, including the (sometimes) painful Virtual Center upgrade. Andrew covered all of the major gotchas and then allowed the audience to pick his brain on other topics, from NFS storage to Exchange virtual machine heroics.

Last night was full of great questions and answers from people like Samtha Attamagoda (pictured here) from Fannie Mae and Kanuj Behl from IGI.

As always, the VMUG meetings are a great place to network with area professionals. I finally was able to put a face to a name with Ken Cline from Wells Landers and had the pleasure of speaking with many of the attendees.

The next DC VMUG meeting will be held in early July and will also move back inside the beltway. Details will be posted in the coming weeks.

Thanks to all for another fantastic meeting. Topics on the horizon for the July event include Life Cycle Manager and perhaps application virtualization.

As always, if you would like to speak at this event, please contact me via this page.

Agenda for April 23rd DC Metro VMUG Meeting
I'm looking for feedback regarding the agenda for our next VMUG meeting.

Introductions - Who am I, who the sponsors are and a tease for the upcoming topics.

Technical Topic #1 - Looking for speakers or ideas. We could discuss fiber channel load balancing, disaster recovery

Sponsor demonstration. Prepare for ooh's and ahh's. I've got another storage vendor offering to sponsor. Would you like to see something tailored to disaster recovery? Open to suggestions.

From the Field - Guest speaker talking about experiences with VMWare in the enterprise. Also looking for speakers.

Q&A.

Wrap-Up.
Who's interested in having a meeting soon?

I'm not sure what's happened to Jason, but there have been no updates about the tentative April 23rd meeting in quite a while. Who out there is interested in having a meeting? If we can get a group interested, we can figure out the when/where/what details. If the group isn't too large, we can likely meet at my office in Tysons Corner. If we get more than 15 or so folks, we may need to look elsewhere.

Let's judge the interest level and go from there.
I have a Dell server with dual nic in in the main box. I'm running the free version of vmware with nic one is used for the main box with IP 10.12.X.X and the VMServer using the other nic with IP 192.168.X.X. The problem I'm having is when you try to RDP into either one of the server it just sit there and want give you a screen with icons. Is there a way to fix this because I'm on the same network as the 10.12.X.X subnet and I still can't RDP into the box. There is a conflict with the two nics talking to one other but how do you fix it.

AX150i vs S550
Hi all,

I have tried searching around for my answer but I haven't found any relevant information so I thought this would be the best place to seek out my answers. First of all, I am putting together an internal test/dev environment for my company that will support several VMs across several projects. We will be purchasing a nice Dell R900 very soon, but I am not sure which SAN solution to get. The budget for our SAN is around $5,000 so keep that in mind. The two that I am currently comparing is the Dell/EMC AX150i and the StoreVault/NetApp S550. Both have 12 bays and support iSCSI and the price for 1-1.5TB is ~$5,000. I am leaning toward the S550 because of it's feature set and NAS/NFS capabilities, but if the AX150 is a clear winner then there's no question which to go with

I also must stress that this is not for a production environment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

No supported network devices found on ABIT AMD X2 motherboard
VMware friends,

I am trying to load VMWare Infrastructure 3 eval on my dual core AMD processor system - Athlon 64 X2 4400+ on motherboard ABIT NF-M2S - and I continue to get the failure message about not being able to find a compatible network devices. Does anyone know where I can get the proper drivers for this built-in NIC card or know what the underlying problem might be here? Is there a support matrix, aka EMC style, somewhere that might tell me the compatible motherboards & hardware for I3?

  Thanks all,
I have 4 Windows 2003 VMs running in VMWare Server 1.0.3 all on a 2003 host OS. 3 of the VMs are fine but one of them has no network connectivity. I can not ping the machine and it can not ping anything. However, Windows in the VM is not displaying any error messages. All of the VMs us the bridged networking connection.
DC Metro Area VMUG - January Agenda Discussion & Request for Speakers

I'm finalizing details for a DC Metro Area (Northern VA, DC, Southern MD) VMUG meeting in late January. Sponsorship, venue and other details will be announced shortly.

In the meantime, I'd like to officially request anyone that is interested in speaking to please reply to this thread, contact me via my site (www.SystemsArchiTECH.com), or send me a private message via this forum. I'm open to all topics such as security, pitfalls encountered, unique solutions, favorite third-party app, et cetera.

I'd also like to start our work in progress agenda. I'm thinking:

Pre-Meeting - Perhaps a small primer for those brand new to virtualization. I had this requested by a few people last time and may be worthwhile to those new to the concept of virtualization.

Introductions - Who am I, who the sponsors are and a tease for the upcoming topics.

VDI 2 - Anyone participating in the VDI2 Beta? Give the user group your feedback!

Technical Topic #1 - You decide. Speakers welcome!

Sponsor demonstration. Prepare for ooh's and ahh's.

Technical Topic #2 - You decide. Speakers welcome!

Q&A.

Wrap-Up.

I'm open to suggestions for technical content, either very advanced or more intermediate discussions. I'm also thinking about putting up a performance matrix to compare and contrast environments and perhaps find ways to make performance tweaks.

Rename VM (not just display name, actual datastore name)
Hi,

I was moving a VM from one ESX 3 server to another and I realized they were using the same name when they were set up, so even tough their host's name was change, as well as the name they display on the Virtual Infrastructure client, they still have the same name on the respective stores.

I tried renaming every file manually, as well as any reference for the old name inside all the log files, but when I boot them up with the new name, it fails and it's clear from the logs that it was looking for files with the old names.

How can I completely change a VM name?

Thanks

Error when moving manually a VM guest from one ESX 3 server to another
Hi, I have 2 ESX3 servers without VMotion or Virtual Center, and I need to move a VM Guest from ESX1 to ESX2, I followed the instructions on this page:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=10102&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&dialogID=28912109&stateId=0%200%2028908514

included the instruction to enable root ssh login, but when I try to apply the command to move the VM Guest I receive the following error:

<strike>root@esx1 root</strike># scp -r /vmfs/volumes/RAID5/vmguest/ root@esx2:/vmfs/RAID5/
ssh: connect to host esx2 port 22: Connection refused
lost connection
<strike>root@esx1 root</strike>#

I imagine it could be a simple error of opening some port at ESX2, but I'm a complete newbie at VMware ESX and Linux.

October 2007 DC Metro Area VMUG Recap

Original post here: http://www.systemsarchitech.com/en/article/75/october-2007-dc-vmug-recap

First off, many thanks to Kevin George a and the rest of the team from EqualLogic for stepping up to host the wonderful event. We had ~35 people turn out for the inaugural Washington, D.C. Metro Area VMWare User Group (DC VMUG in layman's terms).

On top of great shrimp and great service from the friendly staff at Sobe Seafood in Clarendon, we discussed:

The initiation of the DC Metro VMUG. It's been too long for such a predominant area to not have a VMUG.

A LIVE demonstration by the EqualLogic team showcasing their iSCSI solution, in use with some of VMWare VI3's more advanced features. As a brief tangent, some of their unofficial iSCSI performance metrics beat my very official fiber channel metrics at my current customer site. Well done!

Virtual Appliances and how their use is spreading (especially in primarily Linux-based environments).

UNNOC. A free open-source monitoring solution ready for your customization.

New from VMWorld 2007, with VMWare's own Matt Hart chiming in to give a very nice description of Site Recovery Manager, an eagerly awaited feature coming out sometime in '08.

Most importantly, we discussed what we want out of the user group and some of the feedback I received was:

An, "Introduction to Virtualization" segment, either before the main VMUG meeting or during.

More technical content. Even more solutions, more "what I'm doing with VMWare" conversation.

I also had a few offers from VMUG members to speak at the next outing on topics ranging from security to consolidation. Please contact me!

Be sure to vote in the poll on when we should meet next, either December or January.

Here's the presentation from last week's meeting (also attaching to this post):
DCVMUG_October2007.pdf

Finally, for those wishing to link contact information with fellow VMUG attendees, I'm suggesting we use LinkedIn. I've already sent a few invites out to those that I personally chatted with and traded email addresses. Here's my profile, feel free to link to me.

The company that I work for is looking for VMWare professionals in the Northern Virginia area that have a Top Secret clearance. Locating VMWare professaionals has been very difficult for us - beyond this forum and the obvious places (Monster, etc.) does anyone have suggestions on where to find them? Most people don't even list VMWare on their resumes - even if they have the experience.

Registration for COVUG Tech Days is now open! Details below.

The Central Ohio VMware User’s Group is hosting their second regional event. We have roughly 40 vendors coming from all over talking about all kinds of topics. There will also be even more technical breakout sessions throughout the day.

The list of topics that will be engaged in over the two day event is long but you can see most of the list here at the general information site.

http://65.189.158.30

Not only is this event going to have a 10 thousand square ft vendor floor with all kinds of hands on stuff and demos, but there will be presentations going on all day and breakout sessions.

View the list of topics and see what all is going on.

Sign up quick to ensure you can attend and get the handout bag full of goodies from the vendors.

The vendors are silly with big give-aways. I can’t even mention them here.

P.S. This is being held at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, OH and rooms are very cheap. It’s about 1 hour and 55 minutes from Columbus Ohio. Bring the family as there are plenty of things to do.
COVUG Summer Tech Days

The Central Oho VMware User’s Group has its summer version of the highly successful Tech Days event coming up. This event will be July 19th and 20th at the extremely popular KalahariResorts.com location next to the even more popular Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio.

Not only are there currently 40 vendors lined up to present and talk about all different kinds of technologies surrounding virtualization but they are also ready to fill the huge vendor floor with all kinds of booths and information.

You may think it amazing that there will be a Luau the evening of the 19th open to all attendees, a game room filled with large screen TVs with game consoles, and that overnight rooms will be available for a large portion of the attendees who are first to register for only $100 (give or take $10). However you will be astonished to find out that the event itself is free.

The Central Ohio VMware User’s Group is working diligently to bring all this together. We expect registration to be opened some time in the middle of June and the invites will come from VMware.

We are looking for some people to help lead informal discussions on different technical topics. It is our objective to have a good range of technical information available and these discussion forums will be a part of that.

For Questions, Comments, suggestions or other please contact:

Jerry.Collins@covug.org
Or
Whitney.Tapp@covug.org

Stay tuned for more info as the event comes together.

User group status

All, I wanted to give an update on where we are. The Co-chair who worked with me to start this VMUG has moved on to another position. I have been buried under a project that likely won't let up for several months.

We are looking for someone who would be willing to take on the leadership role for this group. Several folks have offered space to hold meetings, and my facility is still available. But unfortunatly, I just don't have the time to committ to this right now.

I think this is a very useful forum, and I hope that we're able to keep things moving along.

Thanks!
tmpDirectory variable doesn't seem to work in VMware 5

I have limited space in /tmp, so in VMware version 4 I was able to set the tmpDirectory variable in /etc/vmware/config to point to /opt/vmware for the storage of it's files. I have tried the same step in VMware 5 and it does not store the files in the temp directory identified in /etc/vmware/config. Does anyone know what can be done so that the files are not being stored in /tmp for VMware 5? Thanks, Cheronda

I'm using VMware Workstation 3, and when I tried to turn on a virtual machine this message showed up: "The host operating system is using the Physical Address Extension (PAE) processor option. VMware Workstation currently cannot run on a PAE-enabled host. Please disable PAE in the host operating system and restart VMware Workstation."

I posted a message earlier and get a reply to open the virtual machine's .vmx file and add "paevm="true"." I did just that, but still not able to turn on any virtual machine on my AMD Athlon 64 processor computer.
Is there any other way to get it working smoothly? Please help....
I've had a few calls asking about whether the weather might interfere with the DC-Baltimore VMUG meeting tomorrow. Any announcements will be posted here as soon as available.
The current predictions have the major snow in the DC area ending by 5-6pm this evening. The roads should be fine for an 11:30am start tomorrow, so the meeting will take place as scheduled.
Thanks and see you there,
vmware hangs for 60seconds regularly

Hi,

I am running windows xp 2002 service pack 2 on my pc.
I am running vmware workstation 4.5.2.
I am emulating windows 2000.

I have been successfully using this setup for over a year. However, I now have the windows 2000 hang for 60seconds regularly. It does recover, but it is really annoying.

I during these 60seconds or so, I cannot click on any vmware menus. In fact if I click outside the vmware window, the mouse is dragged back to the vmware window. The only recourse I have is to wait out the 60seconds or to use ctrl-alt-del to select another xp application.

Does anyone know what is going on?

Thanks in advance.
Jan 15 15:27:34 brennan-esx2 vmkernel: 0:01:39:34.097 cpu3:141) WARNING: SCSI: 4226: vmhba1:0:1:1 status = 0/2 0x0 0x0 0x0

Above is an exaplme of the warning from the system log. I continually get disconnections for some reason and no one has ideas as to why. This error causes a time out on the virtual machine and in some instances the esx servers also crash.
Does any one have any similar cases and if so do you have any suggestions on how to resolve this issue.

The only alternative I have is to revert back to physical machines and not Use VM Ware.

System

Two ESX server one with 4 machines the other running two, whihc are SQL and Exchange Enterprise. It would appear these issues have been arising sine the migration of Exchange Enterprise to the SAN.

Hopefully
sysprep Regional Settings

Hi,
Having problems amending the default locale to United Kingdom from United States after building a server from a template.
When I originally build the server (W2Kserversp3) the default locale is UK with no settings for US.
Once I have created a template and then build another server from this template, it adds the US keyboard etc and sets this as default for all new users.
Amended the sysprep.xml file as follows;
<RegionalSettings>
<Language>00000809</Language>
<LanguageGroup>1</LanguageGroup>
<SystemLocale>00000809</SystemLocale>
<InputLocale>0809:00000809</InputLocale>
<InputLocale_DefaultUser>0809:00000809></InputLocale_DefaultUser>
<UserLocale>00000809</UserLocale>
<UserLocale_DefaultUser>00000809</UserLocale_DefaultUser>
</RegionalSettings>

This does not seem to make any difference.
Also added a Language setting to the XML file to override some of the settings, but still no joy.

Anyone else had this problem and managed to resolve.

Would it make sense to have a place where VMUG members can voluntarily "register" their contact info for collaborating on VMware related topics? Until a better place exists, maybe it could be something like this topic?
Hi All -

I'm one of the leaders of the newly created Baltimore/Washington Area VMWare user group. We'll be posting details about the first meeting in the next few days, but until then, please feel free to post any suggestions you might have for the group. We'll be checking in every few days to look at any new posts.
