I was told it's a great product for backing up live ESX VM's.

Do you have a VCB license? You'll need it if you want to do file level backups from a VCB proxy.

I think you'll also need this enabler if you're using the service console: http://download3.vmware.com/software/vi/tsm-5.2.3-addon.tgz

i will like to install the tivoli client on the esx server so it can backup those vm,is these possible, if yes how should i proceed,kindly advise

Do you mean backup the eSX server itself or a VM?
