Which kind of client (hardware model) do you have?
I remember that there was some bug with some laptop CD/DVD.
Is it connected with SATA physically? I've found the same on my machine and think I read somewhere SATA CD devices weren't supported.

Hi,

I'm currently using ESXi Free and I'm having troubles with CDROM devices in the guests. The guest Operating System is Windows Server 2003 and the settings for the device are Client Device: Checked, Mode: Emulate IDE, Virtual Device Node: IDE (0:0) CD/DVD Drive 1. Although I can connect the device and eject the drive it refuses to recognize any CD's or DVD's, any ideas?
