It hasn't been released indeed, not even private beta yet.

Are you sure about that? You may have the brand, but it was a brand that imformed me

the main use for me is to simplify the client. and reduce the virtualisation overhead. The ability to separate functional uses is also a serious plus point and the ability for machine mobility
Mainly to get rid of a Windows install that is harder to manage (local) and replace it with one easier to manage (VDI). Single image deployment that is hardware independant is compelling. Possible ro run multiple OS instances locally, with "ESX-like" speed. (True I hope). Easy way to turn your old PCs into "fat thin clients". Etc..

Worries are how all the client hardware will be handled. More of a mix and a mess than in the server space... So there is no info to give them other than during 2009 (as said on the VDI/CVP session at VMWorld Europe..)?

CVP has not been released to anybody yet. It is still in development. A release date has not been announced yet.

Out of curiosity, what are the use cases of the customer you say are interested in CVP? Is it just to get rid of the windows layer? Is there anything else that they (or you) find compelling about the idea?

I think the it has been released to a very select few on early tech preview, and before you ask, No I am not one of the lucky ones.

When will the CVP "layer" be here? Client Virtualization Layer to run VDI clients locally. It would be great if it came soon, I have clients that are interested.. No need for a local Windows OS anymore..
