Thanks for setting that Sunday meeting up, was a good time and yes it was nice that rparker didn't get us thrown out of either sunday's gathering or monday night in the v-bar.....

I think both gatherings were a great success and a good time to see who you are actually posting with.

As a reminder, if you're around Sunday night, and looking to meet up with some other attendees, some of us will be over at the Nine Fine Irishman. Thread here.
I would suggest putting Beaver into maintenance mode before we progress too far into the night. After a while he begins to exhibit isolation mode behavior, forgetting the fact that he is still among peers in the cluster that can see what he is doing and will report on the behavior in the logs.
What kind of special? Sounds like I need to do that "Guest" special check-in / Coupon. Normally they give discounts for people staying in the hotel for this things.

Eric was talking about a TV special, like a 30min special on the top 5 craziest rollercosters or something like that. Someone was telling me about that yesterday saying I should do it... I was like "...or I could keep my feet on solid ground..."
So the the people that are attending, VMTN experts, and honored guests... I propose a party.

UPDATE ****

9/15/08 - 2000 - V Bar is the new meeting place. WE are picking a bar, so we can chat more

Sweet! Monday: 10p.m. to 2a.m. DJ Alpyne. Top 40, Club Classics, 80's, Hip Hop

Sounds like fun: V Bar is located along restaurant row, and can accommodate up to 250
people. VIP accommodations and bottle service are also available.

I say we can meet there say around 8:00 on Monday, and talk about our first day. We can meet out front, and I can make reservations under VM Motion

If you like that idea.. we can have fun, meet each other, get to know each other better.. Sound like a plan?

I think I'll be driving up on Sunday afternoon, staying at the Venetian. I might drive to Henderson to check out Green Valley Ranch for a bit (always wanted to see the place in person after seeing it on that reality TV show so much) and then hit some places on the strip. I'm supposed to meet Christofer Hoff sometime at Caesers for cigars and mojitos at Casa Fuente, not sure yet if it's Sunday or Monday. I'd be open to meeting and hanging out for a while before heading off to the Vizioncore bash Sunday night. I'd like to find a cheap place ($5 or less) to play blackjack and some other games.
Can say I have never played craps but I'm sure it'll be a good time, first time in Vegas for me so looking forward to it.

will also be showing up on Saturday, might find me around the poker/blackjack tables

What hotel are you staying in? Venetian? I am at the Stratosphere, and I am arriving Sat AM. I plan to get lots of fun in before I go to VM World. We should meet somewhere, I like craps. There is a nice cheap place on the strip, but I can't remember what it's called. Its a small place right outisde of Harrah's, all I remember it's a small irish casino (O'Shaunessy's, or O'Charlies, or O'I lost my last $20, something like that...). They have maybe 10 tables, mostly craps, 1 or 2 blackjack and a few 1 armed bandits.

Anyway, they have $3.00 craps (maybe 5 bucks on weekends). But there are many nice places that have blackjack / poker. What time are you coming in?

Ok, it looks like we have a plan! Richard, do you mind updating the original post with the new location? And I'll work to get the word out.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to VMworld this year. But JohnTroyer who does all our blogging, and ericni my manager, will both join on Monday night. I'll see if I can get some other interesting VMware people as well.

so I volunteered to pass their request on to you. Any interest in moving this to V Bar at the Venetian?

Fantastic! That's a great idea. I only suggested Grand Lux because I have been there a dozen times, but a bar is a good idea. The grand lux has a "bar area" just outside the restaurant, it's rather small, but it's great for chatting, so that's why I thought it would be a good idea. Never been to V bar, but willing to try new things. I will be there on Saturday, so I will have to scope out the area, but it sounds good to me.

So Robert, are you going to be at VM World as well?

Hi Richard, A bunch of the community moderators were interested in meeting at a bar instead of a restaurant, simply so it's easier to network with more people (since you're not stuck at a table), so I volunteered to pass their request on to you. Any interest in moving this to V Bar at the Venetian? Or is the bar at the Grand Lux appropriate for this gathering? I don't mean to hijack your party, just trying to help bring everyone together. I can also offer to help communicate this to some more top communities folks, if you'd like. Let me know. Thanks for taking the initiative to get communities people together! Regards, Robert

Robert Dell'Immagine, Director of VMware Communities
Hey all I hope you have a great time in Vegas this year. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend as I am I working in Japan now, however I used to do quite a bit of work in Las Vegas for conventions. That being said if you are looking for a good place to eat steak I know there is a great restuarant inside The Mirage just across from the check in counter, it is quite expensive but their steaks are excellent. I personally recommend their kobe steak, you can ask them to hold the knife as you could easily cut through the meat with your finger and it just melts in your mouth. This was also 2years ago when I was there so things may have changed. You guys will just miss the biggest fashion show in the world... nice sights but vegas is super busy during that convention.(MAGIC is the name).

There is also a good night club in the mirage if your into that sort of thing.

I really missing working in Vegas... well i suppose Japan has its perks as well haha

Cheers

If there is any type of community party on Monday night, I'm in. However, if cheesecake is involved, my wife is also in which means I can stay later .

Hahah.. OK, we will try not to make this the "deliverance" version of Vegas 2008 we can find some GOOD steak close by, I am sure of it.. w/ cheesecake! I prefer chocolate cake myself, but hey, whatever we can do to fulfill our sweet tooth, I am good.

I really haven't had a bad meal on the strip... It's all really good anyway.

I'll take your word for it RParker. I'll be up for at least one very good steak/meal (and accompanying cheesecake worthy of my judgemental taste buds).

I prefer not to leave the strip. I've seen too many gangster movies and am aware of what can potentially happen when you get in a car full of not very well known people and head out to the desert.

That may be true, but you won't find a more convenient spot than right there in the same hotel as the VM World Conference...

So that's what I thought, plus we can not only eat cheesecake, but The Cheesecake Factory / Marie Calendar's are pretty much the best restuarants to eat on the west coast.. So anything from steaks, seafood, and chicken is all on the menu, and unless you like paying 30 bucks for a buffet, this is the best place to eat..

Now if we want to get into steak, there the BEST steakhouse anywhere in Las Vegas, Silverado Steak House in south pointe casino. The problem is, it's 10 miles south on the strip.. we need a car. Buf if you are looking for steak, I challenge you to find a better steak house anywhere in Las Vegas.
