      <description>Thanks, dmaster. It looks like the Starter version can be run on the machine being converted or a remote machine, though I didn't try it on a remote machine.</description>

normally you use VMware converter on your Administration Workstation. from there you controll the migrations.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p /&gt;
you can also use the virtual center plugin. (there are two types of installables: VMware Converter Standalone or VMware Converter for VirtualCenter)&lt;br /&gt;

      <title>Silly Question: Where to run/install Converter?</title>

This might be a silly question, but where should I install/run Converter? On the target physical machine or a remote machine? If it is on a remote machine, how do I hook up the target machine to the remote machine so the remote machine can see all the devices on the target machine? Is there a getting started document for Converter that would answer blindingly fundamental questions like these? &lt;br /&gt;
