I have this same problem. I've followed the instructions in the linked thread to no avail. I'm trying to install my drivers from a file called SBPCI128Setupus_w9x.exe. After I double click on that file, installation will proceed for a short while and then BSOD when windows finally detects the new hardware. I'm running 98SE and Fusion 1.0. All I've done is install 98SE from CD, then VMWare tools, and then these drivers. No 3rd party programs are installed. The BSOD is attached.

Look through Windows98 Audio (Sound Adapter) not working, people have gotten sound in Win98 on Fusion working. It's probably a matter of picking the right driver.
Hi there,

I hope someone can help with WIndos 98, I installed it yesterday and i got the same issue. I haven't been able to make audio and usb wroking and didn't find any drivers around (I also installed the usb mass storage drivers). The device manager shows that both devices need drivers.

I found this in the "GuestOS_guide", i'll try it later and see if works.

*
Lack of Support for USB 2.0 Drivers

Workstation 6.x: This guest operating system does not provide drivers for USB 2.0 on Workstation 6.x. As a

*

result, when you install this operating system, a warning will display indicating that the device driver for USB

2.0 cannot be found. To resolve this issue, disable the USB Controller on the guest.

To disable the USB 2.0 controller:

1 Open the virtual machine settings editor (*VM>Settings*).

2 Select Settings to open the Virtual Machine Settings dialog box.

3 Select Hardware, and deselect the Enable USB 2.0 check box for the USB Controller.
Driver issues with Windows 98SE client in Fusion 1.1
I just installed a Windows 98SE client in Fusion 1.1, but ran into a snag on the sound driver install. I took the first sound driver from the archives at Creative (http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?sOSName=Windows+98SE&region=1&Product_Name=Sound+Blaster+PCI+128&Product_ID=1864&modelnumber=&driverlang=1033&OS=3&drivertype=1&Image4.x=33&Image4.y=8) and installed the AudioPCI driver. Then the Windows98 client immediately did a BSOD.

Can anyone give very specific advice about which driver to use? I don't want to treat this as a bug until I'm positive I'm using the best driver. And just a suggestion, but it would be much appreciated if the proper driver was available on this site somewhere; even if just a link to the specific driver at the Creative Labs site. The painful process of searching for drivers for Windows 98SE could be a little too realistic...

I also got a warning mark in the system information for the USB interface. Is there a USB driver I need for Windows 98SE?
