Long file names (as in to long, >256 chars incl path)

Hi,

I just want to share a issue (and the solution) we had some people almost giving up...

We just could not figure out what the problem was.

Person 1 captures the app and builds: Succes
Person 2 captures the app and builds: Fail
Person 1 builds app captured by person 2: Succes
(and many other permutations, tests, conditions, ...)

Finally we discovered that the problem was that during the export Person 2 had ThinApp write the capture directly to the folder on the network and Person 1 write it to a folder on the local system, and copied that manually to the network.

Apparently either during the write (ThinApp save differences start and end snapshot) or during the copy operation to the network the file name length was to long (placed to deep in subfolders). The filename length reached > 256 and the filename was truncated to the 8.3 format (insead of long filenames...)

Result:
Some files for .NET (assemblies in %systemsystem%\binaries\....), all with long filenames were corrupted...

The problem was that office did work well in general, just some seldom used features failed.

So in case you do have strange feelings: dump your directory structure (dir /s) and seach for '~1'. Who knows, maybe you are suffering a similar issue...

Kind regards,
ThinApp'd Package Won't LAUNCH!
I am using ThinApp 4.0.0-2200, fully Licensed, on a VMware Workstation 6.5 Windows XP Pro VM... I have used it to create a Package of a large enterprise App at one of our Customer sites...

The Capture went very well, and -- during the Capture -- I launched the App successfullly about 3 times in a row... Then completed the Capture, and watched as all the components got a

"success" message during creation...

But when I go to the BIN folder and double-click the EXE, nothing happens... I left it alone for awhile, thinking perhaps it was turning up for the first time in the background, but... nothing...

Anything in particular that I should be looking for?

The "primary data container" was (the only .DAT file in the whole package) "Adobe AIR.dat"... Chose "USB Flash" drive for the Sandbox location..."Merged Isolation" mode...

"Build an MSI" and "No Compression" were the last two choices...

BTW, I just packaged FireFox 3.0 on this same computer, AFTER my big app capture, just to be sure ThinApp isn't broken... FireFox launches just fine...

Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

Distribution rights of a thinapp application
All,

If for example I was to package up my own applications in to a ThinApp deliverable exe or MSI what are my rights for distribution? If I wanted to allow users to download an opensource application or an application created by myself in a thinapp wrapper, can I do this?

Thanks,
