Error within the Supportsystem?
Hello,

now everytime I try to submit a supportrequest I receive this:

Error code: TQ44
Error date: Tue Jun 24 02:54:01 PDT 2008
Err 4 user: igi.support@gehe.de
Exception: *<!-- This check here is un-necessary if errorKey was associated in the resource bundle. So much for an error msg -->
Invalid URL invocation*

 The Error Code is different every time i try this. But earlier in the morning I was able to submit a request, this needs even several tries and I had some notifications about errors in the Siebel-system, but one time it works.

Is this a common error or is something false with my browswer (Firefox2 / Linux)?

absolute frustration!
I have a purchased copy of VMware Fusion running on a MacBook pro with 2gb RAM and MacOS 10.5, and it is duly registered with VMware. I have now downloaded the upgrade to VMware Fusion ver 1.1.1 (72241) which seemed to install OK. On starting Fusion however it now tells me that it is not registered and when I attempt to enter my purchased licence key it either simply refuses to accept it - the OK button does not work - or returns a message that the registration has expired.

Frustrating....but that's just the start! All attempts to contact VMware with this problem are turned away. Firstly my original 30 day installation support has expired...yes...I know that...so to get any support for what appears to be an installation problem...or at the very least a serial number entry/acceptance problem....I'm expected to pay US$24.95....not likely!

The problem is squarely at the feet of the installer, installation process or registration process. I also run that other product as a comparison and have always had cheerful, timely and effective support on the rare occassions I have needed it.

Perhaps this is not the right forum to vent my frustration but as a professional software developer who is now prevented from using what had been becoming a valuable tool I have found no alternative.

Customize screen resolution in Linux guest
For those like me who need to customize screen resolution to something like 980x715 in order to use as much space as it's available on the physical screen but don't want to see scrollbars, here's what to do.

Open (as root) X11 config file (which is /etc/X11/xorg.conf in some distributions) and add a ModeLine under Monitor section, VMWare identifier with a line like this:

ModeLine "WxH" 100 W A B C H X Y Z
where
W = desired width
H = desire height
A = (W/100 + 1) x 100
B = (W/100 + 2) x 100
C = (W/100 + 3) x 100
X = (H/100 + 1) x 100
Y = (H/100 + 2) x 100
Z = (H/100 + 3) x 100
where / is integer division. Eg, if W = 1234, W/100 = 12.

Take a concrete example, I need 980x715, so my ModeLine should read:
ModeLine "980x715" 100 980 1000 1100 1200 715 800 900 1000

Save the config file and restart X and now it's possible to choose such resolution inside a session.

Cf: In KB, there's already an article :
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=748
but we also needs to specify color depth.
WEIRD BEHAVIOR ON A CLIENT'S SYSTEM
I have a client I am supporting. She runs Red Hat Linux as her host Operating System while running Windows XP clone on VMWARE.

When she opens MS Outlook on her Windows she get then application open multiple times without her input. If a mail should arrive, the mail will open several instances of itself without anybody prompting it. It will insert blank lines in the mails As if someone is pressing Enter key on the keyboard. Also the behaviour is so weird that when she tries closing the opened windows, the system will prompt her to save the files and when she clicks 'No' it will go on and safe the mails. This however doesn't happen all the time, but the frequency of occurence is very disturbing and unacceptable for a production environment. The error that pops up after this happens is 'Failed to start the grab state: stale data'.

Once thing I can say here is that there is some corruption somewhere. I don't know which side it could be. Could it on Linux or Vmware and how do I resolve it?

Can soemone be of help?

Fusion will not recognize the Windows XP Home Edition disk

I have installed Fusion on my Mac 2x2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel computer. When it tells me to put in the Windows XP Home Edition disk, I do. But, it never recognizes that it is there. I have gone to settings and checked that the CD/DVD is connected (I have dual optical CD/DVD drives installed, and I've tried selecting both of the drives... one at a time). I have tried several times to install Windows, but to no avail. Before I send Fusion back to Amazon.com, and purchase Parallels, can you help me?
