Problems Converting IDE to SCSI

Thx a lot for all the input...the problem is solved ...in the end it was logical...:

I've had to boot from a knoppix cd, mount the scsi device and change the entries in /etc/fstab and in /boot/grub/menu.lst from IDE values like hda1 to scsi values like sda1...

so it was more an linux aspect than a vmware aspect. The converting from ide to scsi with Vmware was not the problem....so it was a basic OS "thing"...

thx + greets

[root@esx root]# hostname
esx.gogo.com

hostname gives FQDN back, the same output if i have the hosts entry active and not commented out.

Name and Domain are also correct in the VI Client. To be honest i cant remember that i've setup the entry in the hosts file ...i'm not 100 percent sure but i'm thinking that esx has written the hosts file entry in the /etc/hosts during Installation....but i maybe wrong...maybe i've done it and i've just forgot it...
yes exactly there are no VLANS on the physical switch...

i've misunderstood the VLAN Tag...thought it was only for "virtual circumstances" and did not thought that it would have to match the vlan id (if exists) on physical switche..

Hey Roe,

Glad that you were able to find the answers you were looking for. Also, what some people like to do here is always ask the questions as questions on the forums. What does for you and the people who help you out, is it allows you to award points to the people who help you with your challenges. Points are free, but to some it is enough to encourage them to give you a little extra energy.

You can put a check mark when you start the forum to make it a question. And then as people answer you can reward up to 2 helpful's, and 1 correct answer.

Respectfully,
