Using the Offline Desktop Client inside a VM - Secret Workaround???

I know there's some strings you can peg to the end of an AGENT install to install it to VM/TS box - as if it was a physical machine.

However, there's another restriction - the fact you cannot install the "offline client" into a VM. I would really like to do this for product demonstrations purposes.

Is there a workaround or frig to get this to work?
I'm chatting with an organisation that wants to sell a virtual desktop.
VDI infrastructure for 200 XP light users over iSCSI?
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Will you be using the software initiator provided with ESX or using a Hardware Initiator. Have you given any thought to amount of VM's per LUN?

I think each method FC, NFS, and iSCSI has benefits and negatives and through testing you should be able to find the one that will acheive your goals.

I'm trying to create a win vista virtual desktop for use in a desktop pool:

I installed a VM with VISTA BUSINESS, i created a template from it, i copied the vista sysprep inside the virtualcenter machine, i deployed a new VM with tis parameters:

Set computer name to virtual machine name. Use DHCP. Join the Active Directory domain automatically. Generate a new SID. Do not log in automatically under Administrator. At the end I've saved the deploy customization,
After I tested it creating a new VM using the saved customization. But I got the error:

"Windows could not parse or process unattend answer file C:\\Windows\Panther\unattend.xml for pass oobeSystem. The answer file is invalid"

Hey guys,

We just setup a VDI testing lab and are running into issues trying to install the SSL cer on the VDM server. We are not using a security server or any load balancing but I have opened up ports on the firewall so I can get to the VDI desktops from the outside. Can anybody give the steps on how to install a SSL cert on the VDM server as following the steps in the guide are not working for me. I know ideally I should have a security server but this is just for some basic testing.

Guys,

I grab an image from a physical machine and brought it into our virtual environment. I assigned the files and ownership to root, etc. In the past I would be able to get it started.

Windows tried to start but it just ended duroing the windows screen.

One thing I noticed is in the property, it has a maximum size of 40 GB for this machine. My remaining space is 2 GB on that vmware box.

Can this be the cause?

TIA,
Hello,

I have a VDM 2 solution based on Windows XP PRO SP2.
The VDM agent 2.1 in installed on the Virtual Desktop.

When I connect to the Virtual Desktop, the passthrough authentication works fine between the VDM client (installed on my workstation) and the VDM agent (installed on the Virtual Desktop)
i.e. I don´t have to authenticate twice.

Once the Citrix Password Manager Agent 4.6 (build 93) is installed on the Virtual desktops, the passthrough authentication between the Client and the Agent doesn´t work anymore, (ie I have to authenticate twice: once on the broker and a second time on the Virtual Desktop)

I tried to switch the installation order, In this case the passthrough authentication works, but the Password Manager agent doesn´t.
Citrix has said their agent must be installed last and other solution is not supported.
It seems, every product looks at the GinaDLL key and the last installed product wins

At the moment the Password Manager Agent is installed after the VDM agent.
In the registry I have.
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Currentversion\Winlogon\GinaDLL a string value of C:\Program Files\Citrix\Metaframe Password Manager\SSOGina\SSOgina.dll
HKLM\Software\Citrix\Metaframe Password Manager\Shell\OrigGinaDLL a string of "C:\vmware\agent\bin\wsgina.dll" (I have modified the default path to avoid spaces)

I have an error message in application event log after a logon process

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Citrix Password Manager
Event Category:	Logon
Event ID:	106
Date: 15.07.2008
Time: 13:55:05
User: N/A
Computer:	VDX00011
Description:
SSOGINA.dll could not load '"C:\VMware\Agent\\bin\wsgina.dll"'. MSGINA.DLL was loaded instead.

If I suppress the "" and let only C:\vmware\agent\bin\wsgina.dll: I can´t connect, the Virtual Desktop believes it is a direct connection and refused it. (It´s a new behavior of the Agent 2.1)
If I install the Agent 2.0, the connection is not refused, but the authentication passthrough doesn´t work, and I don´t have any error message in the event log

has anyone an idea which could help me to make these two software working together ?
Thanks

Adobe Distiller and virtualized fonts
I have Adobe Acrobat 8 in my VDI image, and have virtualized MS Office 2007. When I try to create a PDF from a Word file using the Calibri font it fails. Under the preferences for Distiller the font locations it seaches includes c:\windows\fonts, but since Offcie is virturalized that and other fonts don't appear there. Is there a way (a path for example) that I can set in Distiller to include fonts with a virtualized app? (If it was just Office I would just put a copy of the MS fonts into the c:\windows\fonts folder in the image, but I want to virtualize several apps that each have their own set of fonts).

Thanks,

VDM clients disconnect, but not logging off
I am currently evaluating using VDM in our school for student use in labs and as public access. The biggest problem I am having is that the users do not log off, they tend to just disconnect. I have set the "Automatic Logoff after disconnect" to 2 minutes after the disconnect, but it does not log the computers off. I have also tried using the terminal client local computer policy to terminate the session after 5 minutes, and that does not work either. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thank you

If I were to use VDI on ESX, is there anything I should be concerned with in the endpoint management side (functions that Virtual Center or ACE can't do)? For example, tradtional endpoint management technologies such as Altiris or Symantec Endpoint Protection work in an identical fashion as they do on physical desktops?
We have the Ace Starter Pack. When I create a package and go to install it, it prompt's for a License. I know for the enterprise the serial number is deployed with the Package. But do we have to manually enter the serial number for the starter? If not what might I be doing wrong? Or is there another way around doing this, so I won't have to hand out serial numbers to users to enter.
