Error when opening any console within VCAP
Hi all.

I am not able to view any consoles using this tool, which is ashame as i'd really like us to use this.

I am using the linux version and within config.xml am connecting as https with a non standard port of 4443. (this may be the reason?)

Everything else in VCAP works, but just the console doesnt. Getting the following error once the VMware remote Console window pops up:

"Error Opening the remote virtual machine 192.***.**.*** A4443\vm-1057: The Hostname could not be resolved."

Any ideas?

Cheers.
Enable SSL ?
Who are the Tomcat Guru's in here?

I wish to enable SSL for the VCAP main page, that's on port 80, presumably get it going on 443.... SSL is already enabled for the administrative port, but the documentation only says "read this apache.org" document to enable SSL for everything else. So presumably the SSL key generation steps can be fixed and I only need to edit server.xml.

Too much for my small brain...
Remote Console on Linux, help!

Interesting.
I can call the console from command line, in the Firefox addons folders as per the links you sent.
I manually connect to an ESX, select a VM and I have KVM working fine.
So the culprit is NOT the Remote Console addon as I suspected.

Still when I click on "Remote Console" from the VCAP, I get no result, so I assume the Remote Console call is wrong from within VCAP, on Linux platform.
I don't know how to grab some more info, I'll try to grab some network traces to see if I get anything meaningful.

Thanks for the help.

No Snapshots and No Virtual Machines and Templates View

I agree.
You can't start duplicating 80% of VirtualCenter and add new feature (multi-VCs consolidation) and not expect people to ask for the last 20%.
I very frequently manage my ESX / VMs on the road and the Web Based approach is excellent, the overall UI is light and fast (mmm, not like VC, not its Web Interface) and the remote console is great (light, fast). Once you gave me that, for sure I want in the 20% missing what I use most: shutdown, reboot, snapshot management...
If I have to go back to VirtualCenter for a mandatory task, VCAP is just useless.
For the monitoring part, it gives a simple overview but then you have to look at what's on the market yet (e.g. vKernel) and add more analysis, capacity planing... The VCAP price so far is excellent but again, you have to take the product one way or another (specific monitoring tool, then remove some existing features, e.g. power on and off of VMs) or full feature VC replacement then add currently VC-only features.
With the VMworld 2009 announcement that VC was going to be a Web-Based appliance I was under the impression VCAP was the 1st preview of what's coming. Can you clarify the design goals you had in mind when you created the current preview?

No Shuitdown nor Reboot for running VMs with VMware Tools running

Hi,

Besides the already mentionned Snapshot Management being missing, one major annoyance: the capability to shutdown or restart running VMs with VMware Tools running. I use this feature a lot to manage servers and turn them off / reboot them without logging on them. I don't want to power them off, of Reset them (which we can), just initiate that nice shutdown / reboot through VMware tools.

Other than that, it's a joy.

Thanks.
But there are total of three VC servers with VirtualCenter 2.5.0 build-84767 in our environment and only this particular one (out of three) VC server with MSSQL2005 has this problem.

By the way, I have seen this error message on VC server = VMware VirtualCenter 2.5.0 build-119598 as well, but usually after log out and log in again, the error message will be gone.

A single sign on won't work for this type of layout. Are there plans to allow us to connect to each VC once logged into the portal?
