VMware Virtual Disk Development Kit (VDDK) is an open API and SDK that enables ISV/IHV partners to develop applications to create and access VMware virtual disk storage for VMware Virtual Infrastructure, VMware Workstation, Fusion, VMware Server and VMware Player products.
Virtual Disk Development Kit enables developers to extend their solutions to support virtualized IT environments and offer solutions for virtualization market place. For example, partners can use virtual disk development kit to develop solutions that can backup physical servers on virtual disks (they can then easily restore to a virtual machine in the event of a disaster), create virtual appliances, centrally scan virtual machines offline for virus or centrally patch virtual machines offline.
