Hi Nikkar, great news the use of the "unsupported" command. After the availability of the SSH service, now we have the problem to stop and restart the Virtual Machines hosted by the ESXi version. How is possible to launch the "vmware-cmd" command (and other related) in order to perform the stop, backup and start of the Virtual machines hosted by the ESXi version? Thanks in advance for your answer. Bye.

No it dont affect the vm´s.
You will loose your connection to the VI client, but after the restart of the management agents you can login to the VI client again.

There is a command : esxnet-support which is designed to change the IP settings of the service console.
With this utility, you can easily change all the IP configuration of the service console even the network device used.

Unfortunately, this command is broken with ESX 3.5.

Thank you for this post! Found it after creating my own way of doing it (using crude cloning), then found another person documenting yet another way to do it, here's the URL to see those 2 other ways:
http://www.lamnet.nl/wordpress/?p=35

Hope this info helps others give it a try, as while it's unsupported, it's a great excercise for learning 3i, and reducing energy consumption (saving many watts by avoiding RAID5 of 6 15K RPM U320 drives I had spinning on one ESX host). Oh yeah, remember to use a rear USB port, as I've learned the hard way: many machines can't boot from media mounted in front USB ports.
