Hi Roy,
I will pull together some information and see if I can put it on here. It was definitely a semi-steep learning curve for me to get the sanMelody working correctly, but once you do it works well.
Have you hooked up iSCSI targets to ESX at all or first time? Sorry to ask but it helps me to know where to aim the level of explanation. ![]()

Thanks for your reply.
It will be good if you can share your experience with us.
I have not get to that stage to test ESX Initiator yet, I mainly tried Microsoft Initiator. I want to test the Microsoft Initiator then move to test ESX Initiator. but My problem with SANmellody is not from Initiator, but in configuring SANmelody itself. Let me tell you what I have done so far
The first testing with Microsoft Initiator:
I have setup ESXi (free downoad version ) in HP workstation XW6200, it was a testing enviroment. server was running OK. In one fo guest Win2k3, I have installed Microsoft initiator.
On another XP workstation, I setup as SAN TARGET by using a software called StartWind, and successfully establish connection between TARGET and Initiator. there is no drama.
in second test, it was using SANmelody.
I rebuild XP workstation and installed a SANmelody (try version), I placed two hard disk (only partitioned, not formated).
howver I can not see any volume available, when I try to release the volum from the server, the message appear says that the volume has been released successfully, but in the protected volume list, it still show that all logical disks are protected, not released. If I create another disk, it will automatically moved to the protected volume list, hence, I don't have spare value available for the Initiator to connect. that is my problem, I try to download hte lite version, same problem. check the internet, don't see any one have mentioned this problem. a bit frustrated. hope you can give me some hint...
cheers Roy
My apologies for not following up. I got slammed with some network issues over the last week and still sorting out some stuff. I will post something soon. ![]()
Sounds interesting, I am new to SANmelody, I also tried but failed to connect to VMware. I can see the spare disk in SANmelody but I can't add it to pool. error message: interal error. I don't know why,
have you experienced similar problem? any step by step instruction you can recommend? Roy
